Nice idea, however I just made an account and have zero lessons to do even though I didn’t do any lessons yet and have the limit set to 10 words.
This is just speculation, but I assume the reason for this bug is that you create the list of lessons for the day once, and don’t let items that are removed via WaniKani sync be replaced by ones that would otherwise have appeared on a later day. In that case I’d recommend you replace today’s lesson list automatically after each WaniKani sync.
Thank you for giving it a try, and for such a detailed report! You were really close. It only affected brand-new accounts on their first WaniKani sync, so not the best first impression, sorry about that!
It’s fixed now: the lesson list is calculated apart of WK sync, just like you suggested. If you log back in, your 10 lessons should be waiting for you.

I had a really pleasant exchange with the WaniKani team after posting here. They let me know that, according to their API policy, WaniKani integration can’t be part of a paid feature.
I wasn’t aware of that, so we happily changed it. WaniKani import and sync are now free for everyone. 
I still think it works really well alongside WaniKani, even on the free plan. You can keep using WaniKani for kanji and its core vocabulary, then use it at your own pace to learn the words that fall outside the regular WaniKani curriculum.
Huge thanks to the WaniKani team for reaching out and being so kind throughout the whole process. And thanks to everyone here who’s tried or shared feedback; it genuinely helps.

Wait, but you can setup your wk token into bunpro, so it syncs what you learned. You can even chose at what level of the srs you want wanikani words to start at
