Grand Princess was so good
! It was also long as heck, which means that the translation is also long
. I got the first part done, though!
The opening match was Arisu vs Suzume, which was a lot of fun! I’m a fan of Suzume’s new gear; it’s more in the direction of “hornet” (like her name) as opposed to “bee”.
I understood most of Suzume’s comments:
Suzume: “Ariake has started. And we were the ones to kick things off in the first match. It was a Daisy Monkey showdown! Arisu is the kind of girl I want to be. She’s bright and honest and is loved by everyone. She’s too dazzling. She’s so wonderful, there are times where she honestly scares me. But after she said that she admires me, I knew that I couldn’t lose.”
Except for this sentence, haha: “そんなこと有栖も知らないまま私はグルグル考えてたけど、実際闘ってみたら有栖は私の考えてたこととか関係なく、前だけを見て闘ってくれました.”
“I was thinking about these things without Arisu knowing, but when we actually fought, it didn’t matter to Arisu what I was thinking; she fought with her attention only on what was right in front of her. All I can see right now is the future. I see a future where a match that’s a special singles match for us becomes important for everyone, for the whole company. I want to see a future where I hold the belts with Arisu, and I want to show it to everyone.”
I think I got Arisu’s?
Endo: “I lost… Even though I said all that cocky stuff, I lost… But my goal of winning will just have to be postponed. I want to have another singles match with Suzume-san someday. I think we were both able to communicate our feelings through wrestling, and that was a lot of fun.”
(How did it feel to be setting the stage with the opening match at Ariake?)
“I was the first person to enter, wasn’t I? I was super nervous, but seeing all the penlights and hearing everyone’s cheers… somehow I felt nervous but also soothed by it. But the venue was gigantic! I think we raised the level of energy starting with the very first match.”
The next match was the debut match for two new rookies, Haru Kazeshiro and Runa Okubo! Mahiro had quite a lot of responsibility here, haha.
I actually looked at what shupro had for her apology, but opted not to bother translating it because I don’t think I could do better than Mr. Haku’s translation. I did laugh, though, at shupro referring to it as “謝罪式ダブルニードロップ”. An apology-style double knee drop? ![]()
I think I got the comments for the babiest rookies team:
(As a sidenote, I think I’m switching to romanizing 凍雅 as Toga instead of Touga, because it seems like that’s what everyone else is using, and I try to be consistent.)
Toribami: “I’m sorry. This is your debut match, but I wanted to give you a win.”
Toga: “I was the one who lost in the end.”
Toribami: “You gave it your all against Mahiro-san.”
Toga: “I thought with just a little more, I could’ve won. But I lost in their debut match. I wanted to ensure that they won.”
Toribami: “How was your debut?”
Okubo: “It was fun, and I was nervous…”
Kazeshiro: “I said it during the greeting, but this is a promotion that I’ve been watching since I was in elementary school. I felt so happy and honored when Namba-san gave the announcement, and I thought I’d do my best in the matches to come.”
Toribami & Toga: “Welcome!”
(What kind of pro wrestler are you aiming to be?)
Okubo: “I want to be cool and cute, and I want to be the kind of wrestler that people admire.”
Kazeshiro: “I myself get energized and feel encouraged by watching Itoh-san in TJPW, so I want to be the kind of wrestler who can cheer people up through my wrestling, and inspire them to do their best tomorrow.”
Team Mahiro’s comments were a little trickier:
Kiryu: “I won! Being able to wrestle all of the brand new wrestlers making their debut at Ariake, I felt so giddy today.” (laughs) “That joyful feeling carried me to a win today. I’m really, really happy.”
HIMAWARI: “It’s Shino-san’s first victory, huh?”
I wasn’t quite sure I understood what Shino means by this response: “3試合目、リングでは2試合目なんですけど、初めて勝利を感じて、自分でもつかみたくなっちゃった.” Unless she’s referring to having participated in an event where she had a match that wasn’t in a ring? I think there were a few opportunities where that might have happened…
Suzuki: “This is my third match, and my second time in the ring, but I tasted victory for the first time, and it made me want to get a win on my own. I became a little greedy.”
Kiryu: “What’s your next goal?”
Suzuki: “I want to win by myself.”
Then Himawari said, “私は入場するときに志乃さんの紙テープが体中に巻き付いて、その時点でてんやわんやしてました.” I wasn’t quite sure about that last part, haha.
HIMAWARI: “When I entered, Shino-san’s streamers were all over me, and at that moment, it felt really chaotic. But I’m glad we won.” (laughs)
And finally, Wakana confused me with the first part of her answer here: “私はデビューから2カ月ちょっとで、3月弱ぐらいなんですけど、いきなりこんなに大きな会場で試合させていただいて”.
Uehara: “It’s been just a little over two months since my debut, and we’re barely into March, but I’m really grateful that I got the opportunity out of the blue to have a match at such a big venue, and I’m really happy to be able to take home a victory like this. We’re all in the same class, and in that manner, we all want to do our best.”
Kiryu: “I hope you will continue to support us.”
The third match was extremely good. As soon as it was announced, most fans were wondering at the booking decision to put Raku and Ram on opposite sides, since they “got married” in their match at Grand Princess last year. As it turns out, that was basically the entire plot of the match, haha, with Raku getting angry at Ram for cheating on her (Raku, you’re one to talk, there…), and Ram not wanting to fight her in the match (now that I think about it, there’s a bit of foreshadowing for the main event). Their current status as a couple is a bit unclear. Ram appears to be trying to beg for Raku’s forgiveness on social media, haha.
Anyway, their comments were also pretty entertaining, though there were a lot of things that I couldn’t quite figure out. Starting with the Ram + Free WiFi side, I wasn’t sure what they were talking about with 納得 at first, but I think maybe they’re referring to Ram’s participation in their pose (symbolizing her allegiance to them in general)?
Kakuta: “I’m not convinced.”
Hikari: “Something’s not quite right.”
Kakuta: “I wasn’t convinced the whole time, but that moment at the end, that was a shock. I’m disappointed.”
Ram: "After it ended… no, it’s not like that! She said that I was having an affair. I’m not! Even though I’ve been telling Raku-chan every day that she’s the only one I love, she said I was unfaithful… "
Then Ram said, “不服じゃないですか”, and I wasn’t quite sure what she meant by it.
“You don’t disagree, do you? Such a cute girl sulking in bed, she was adorable, right? Going to bed in a huff in the middle of the match? Not to mention bringing her own pillow. That’s new. Genius, that girl.”
Kakuta: “I’m a bit familiar with the pillow, so… I dunno…”
Ram: “She’s a genius. That’s why I can’t be rough with such a cute girl. But it was really fun, so this time I want to do the ‘BiBiBiBiBi.’”
Kakuta: “Really? You said that, huh? Then it’s okay if Raku-chan is in the opposite corner next time?”
Ram: “I also love dogs and cats.”
Kakuta: “You only like my cat tweets.”
Hikari: “She might also just be liking my dog tweets.”
Ram: “Let’s get to know each other a little better and start over.”
Hikari: “So much so that you won’t have eyes for Raku, huh”
Kakuta: “Then please look forward to us BiBiBi-ing together.”
At the end, all three of them do the “BiBiBiBiBi” pose and head backstage.
On Raku + the rest of the 三角関係’s side, Pom confuses me from practically her first line: “ぽむはいまヤバいから寝たかったの.”
(Pom sleeps on the pillow, and seeing this, Raku and Aino also sleep)
Pom: “Wake up! I wanted to sleep because it’s dangerous. Why did you guys fall asleep?”
Aino: “I went to sleep because Raku was sleeping.”
Pom: “Raku-chan, why did you go to sleep?”
Raku: “The match was over, so it’s time to sleep.”
Pom: “That’s… Well, at one point, I had a theory that Ram Kaichow-san was on our side. I don’t know if you all noticed, but she totally acted just like Yuki-san. She said, ‘Cute!’ at exactly the same time.”
I wasn’t sure what she meant by this, haha: “だから今日、その5対1が見えたの”
“So today, we saw five against one.”
Aino: “Certainly.” (laughs) “I saw five against one when we were chatting. But I couldn’t help but feel sympathy for Ram-san, so it felt like we could get along. I am OK with people who support the same bias."
Raku: “Another affair?”
Aino: “No, no. But I was only able to fight Ram-san a little bit, so next time I want to do a lot more. I also think it would be nice if we could team up next time as an alliance of Raku lovers.”
Raku: “So you don’t really like me…”
Aino: “Oh no, Raku, you’re all I think about. But Free WiFi’s connection is really… I’m sorry I couldn’t help. I feel like they showed us the power of a tag team relationship.”
Then this exchange totally confused me, haha. I couldn’t figure out what Yuki was saying or whether Pom was talking about herself or the broader team:
ぽむ「ここはちょっと一方通行すぎますね」
Pom: “It’s a little bit too much in one direction on my side.”
愛野「関係の整理が一生つかないからね。そこが問題かもしれない」
Aino: “I can’t be in this relationship arrangement for the rest of my life. That might be the problem.”
Pom: “I’ll go home and sleep and think about it.”
All three: “Goodnight!”
And that’s the first, uh, quarter of the show! They also just did a press conference, so I’m aiming to get at least those two translations finished before the LA show, but I might not finish the next two shows in time, unless they have like nothing going on, haha. Thankfully April looks quieter? ![]()
