Slooshy's New Study Log

cuteeee

where are you doing online lessons and in what way were they rough?

OMG THIS IS HOW I AM WITH MUSIC.

I feel this image captured the unsettling feeling of being very impatient with ourselves while simultaneously being solely responsible for our own motivation…with strawberries!

I LOVE THAT KITTEN AND BERRIES AND WEIRD LITTLE CANDY CAT THING AND BUTTERFLAIZZZZZZ

Good for you!!! I just re-achieved a ghost count of 10 (it was down to 8) with my last batch of lessons and so I’m at a pause on new grammar points until it’s back under 10. Maybe I’m being a bit brutal with my expectations though…but I don’t want to get rained out with review counts spiking on me.

I felt my unsettling AI art of strawberry motivation was too…unsettling so! Here, please have a more delightful AI art:

It was just me being on my dozy mode rather than the teachers. I had one of my blank out moments in three lessons - I get a very simple question and for some unknown reason I couldn’t think what the whole sentence meant though I know what all words meant separately!
I keep forgetting very simple grammar so I keep being told that the grammar I can’t remember is basic N5 or N4.
My last lesson my intonation seemed to be really bad so I was having to re-read out two pages. I had to laugh at myself because I had to repeat a very simple phrase over 10 times.
I have been having a lot of stress and very little sleep lately (new neighbours from hell moved in!) which hasn’t helped… but I tend to beat myself up over things feeling like I’ve let down my teachers. :pensive: So I think it’s just me being rough on myself!

Oh my that studying kitten is so cute!! That’s cheered me up thanks!!!

It sounds like your doing the right thing with grammar! :+1: I don’t think grammar is something we can really rush through, slow and steady winds the race. :muscle:

Curious! Are you study music as well? If so what? :slightly_smiling_face:

Do you study music? Do you play an instrument? If yes, which one? I’m always excited to meat other musicians!

If you’re paying for classes, that means you’re also paying for them to work with you through those times when you’re not on top of your game. Progress isn’t linear. Please don’t beat yourself up : )

Oh no, not bad neighbors…
I feel this: “feeling like I’ve let down my teachers” <<<< it’s a nefarious nemesis! We can beat it together! :zap: :zap: :zap:

This is biiiiig truth.

I’m learning how to play lap steel right now – an 8-string horizontal electric guitar tuned to C6. I played it daily for the better part of a year, and that got me quite far, but I underestimated the learning curve and kept forgetting to appreciate my progress, so I came stupidly close to giving up. Much like with Japanese. :see_no_evil: Lap steel: It’s a magical, magical instrument. :sparkles:

Me too! :cherry_blossom: What instrument(s) do you play, NeoArcturus??

Thank you for emphasizing this. My brain expects linear progress and wants to give up when there are these inevitable times of plateau…but I can’t let giving up happen! :two_hearts:

Speaking of which: I did my lessons and reviews today, and I kept up with Bunpro reviews! No new lessons for a little bit because I’m at 11 ghosts so… :strawberry:

Currently, I’m mainly playing piano, but I also played Guitar for a few weeks (lol) and french horn for a few years (but that was so long ago lol).

I started teaching myself to play keyboard! I haven’t got room for a piano but hope to get an electric one someday in the future if I get a bigger home. :grinning: I played keyboard a lot when I was young and had about a 14 year break. I just suddenly wanted to play again but it’s only been about 2 months so far but I’m enjoying it. I will say I’m an extreme beginner though as I never had lessons and just self teaching right now.

Well, I have to admit, I only have a 61 keyboard myself  We might get one with all keys this year, though! I still always say that I play piano lol

I’m also self-thought, and I personally think I’m somewhere between intermediate and advanced. I linked a video of my playing in my study log, I will link it here if I find the post again!

Ok, found it pretty fast lol

And don’t worry, everyone starts as a beginner  It takes a lot of practice to become good!

Aww thanks! I really need to highlight this to remind myself. I’m too harsh on myself.

With a pile of strawberries we can do anything! :muscle: :strawberry: I do lack in self confidence but I’ve always been compared to others as a kid which didn’t help, it’s a habit I haven’t got out of. :pensive:

Sounds amazing! I’m glad you’ve been keeping it up! I’m been trying to study keyboard everyday but only started for about 2 months now after an extreme long 14 year break. I’m finding I’m really enjoying it and noticing how much time has gone by when playing.

Yay keep it up! :strawberry: Keep hanging on there with grammar (that requires more strawberries!). :strawberry: :strawberry: :strawberry:

I’m playing on a borrowed 61 keyboard as well.
Thanks for the link! Oh wow that was amazing and beautiful. :musical_note: I’m nowhere near that level, I’m following a book and just played very easy tunes so far like Twinkle Little Star… (huge difference in skill!).

Thanks a lot! I’ve already been playing for four years, with two breaks in those four years that add up to 2 years, so two years in which I actually played. But as I said, all it takes to get good is practice  If I can do it, you can do it too!

That’s very good for a short time! (Well deserve full size!). It’s inspiring especially when someone else is self taught, I hope to get to that level at some point! :star_struck:

Nice! What is the name/composer of the piece you’re playing in your YouTube vid?

Ah that’s awesome! It’s so much fun playing keyboard and piano!

Kept up with my reviews! :strawberry:

It’s Vivaldi’s Winter from the four seasons, arranged by Rosseau!
