Slice of life / modern day / school mangas

I confess I don’t entirely recall how the series works without him - been a while since I watched it. I guess she just inspires herself? I do seem to recall that they increased Kiriu’s antagonism to the point where he’s practically a card-carrying villain…

Ohh, noone’s mentioned Yuru Camp (aka Laid-Back Camp) in this thread yet.

Read it, you won’t regret it. :smiley:

Cat Street is indeed very good. I think the fans of Nana would especially like it.

Oh wow, I read that like 10 years ago and was easily one of the best manga I’ve ever read. My eyes were sweating so much. I got to re-read it, thanks for reminding me of it.

Truth be told, I’ve re-read it last week in one go. And it was awesome!

@Darcinon, @jneapan, @Cryptomilk Great! Because after Darcinon’s recommendation I sent after the whole series and it should arrive tomorrow! (Although there is no way I can read it quickly, especially since it isn’t top of my list of all the mangas I now own! I am so rich in great mangas! :smiley:)

You got thisssss! One thing is for certain, the 1st volume is the hardest one to read! Then when you’re used to the vocab, it gets quite easier :grin: For からかい, I’m on vol 5 :v:

I’m a bit late and there’s already a bunch of good recommendations (also a bunch I don’t know), but I’ll add some anyway:p

Basically anything by Ai Yazawa: Nana, Paradise Kiss, ご近所物語, etc

The first manga series I ever read in Japanese was Working. It’s a four koma slice of life following workers at a family restaurant. It has no furigana, which made it incredibly painful at the time (I knew maybe 100 kanji then and had only the N5), but it felt incredible to be able to read in Japanese. What I mean is that it’s hard to decide if I liked it because of the story or because of my situation :sweat_smile:

Are any of Ai Yazawa’s works truly completely stories? I know that Nana has basically been on hiatus for years…

Parakiss and ご近所物語 are complete, yes. Nana will be on hiatus probably forever, but anyway kinda reached an “end” in the story. There are a few unanswered questions and it’s a bit abrupt, but it’s fine (in my opinion)

@Naphthalene I’ll check them out.

I’m currently checking through the first volumes of the mangas I have now. I have a small library now. :3 I think I know the first couple of ones I’ll tackle, for those interested: Chi’s Sweet Home with the Absolute Beginner Book club in July and にゃんにゃん that is already done in that same book club. Of the suggested here, I don’t know which one I’ll tackle first. But I’ll try to remember to come back here and tell when I know/have started!

I enjoyed the anime for this a lot (so much I even re-watched it), so it’s likely you liked it because of the story.

Nooo…don’t watch Usagi Drop. You’ll come out by the 3rd episode wanting to adopt a kid. It completely wraps its fingers around your heart.

aria’s my fav (i know it’s more fantasy and less modern day life setting, but every chapter is slice of life 4 me)… every chapter in that manga is so beautiful and soothes my soul

Ashita wa Doyoubi - a spin off series of Karakai Jouzu na Takagi San (which has a second season of the anime coming soon I think but I digress) is easy and fun reading.
