Show very distinct meanings directly

I just got to and it’s main displayed meaning is “Substitute” and it’s fine. But then the description says:

This kanji has another meaning too. The leader can’t come to the ceremony because they forgot what period of time it was. If they think they’re in the wrong age, they won’t come because they’re trying to lead some monkeys in the ceremony instead.

So IMHO it would make sense to display both “substitute” and “period” directly and not burry it in the details view

Are you suggesting having the alternative meanings listed next to ‘substitute’ just under the kanji instead of in the Other Meanings section?

Yes. But not all “other meanings” as they can be a lot and often while not synonyms with meanings quite similar/relatable.

However, if the other meaning is completely bonkers when it comes to “be similar” (like in the above case) having two words listed directly below kanji would be great, especially during reviews (to know there are other significant meanings and have them right there)

I see, thanks for clarifying. I think we would want to avoid that for the same reason we usually teach one reading at a time for each kanji. We want you to know that other readings/meanings are possible, but we also want you to start with one key reading/meaning. This is because we believe having too much info on each individual card could end up being detrimental to your learning. You do eventually learn all the subsequent readings and meanings via the vocabulary though.
