[Request] Increasing note lenght

Would it be possible to increase the limit of user notes from current 500 to something… less limiting (maybe 2000?) :folded_hands:

I started to rely on it for adding useful information there and more context and current 500 feels very limiting.

Hi,
tiny bump.

I started putting in note/comment field translations of the comments/explanation into my native language (turns out that despite rather good knowledge of English, reading the same thing in my native Polish makes the explanation “click” way better… :open_mouth: :exploding_head: ) and I’m quite often hitting the limit of 500 characters.

Having it increased would help a lot without having to stoop to (quite often) fancy editing to try to squeeze the content  (also, current way the editor works by cutting everything at the limit mark makes it more difficult to edit :frowning: )

Hey! I have passed this one on to the team.

If wk offered different languages it would be able to help a lot more learners.

The translations could be community generated if there was a way to load them.

I am British so am lucky that mostly I can understand American. I do have to google some of the cultural references!

Thank you so much! <3

Hmm… that’s an interesting point!

Though while basic translation for kanji/vocab is not a problem, and even translation for meaning mnemonic would be more than fine, translation for reading mnemonics could be challanging. Sometimes it does work (for example recently I had “cold” kanji with “samurai” and obviously same word is used in Polish; same with “kouichi” :D)

Alas - could be really helpful! <3

@wojtek Instead of manually putting translations in notes, I made a userscript called WaniKani Meaning Translation that auto-translates the meaning text into Polish (and 100+ languages) after each review. No manual work needed.

It uses Google Translate with MyMemory fallback and has a WKOF settings panel.

Install: WaniKani Meaning Translation

I also made WaniKani Review Analytics for accuracy tracking: WaniKani Review Analytics

Thank you for the information.
It looks quite interesting, however I prefer to have the translation directly in the notes field because I can access those also in Android application. Additionally, I can tweak the translation to my liking and include additional information, so I’m not limited to the automatic translation.
Besides, I think that having it translated once is more efficient than doing that constantly even though it’s cached locally
