Was WW1 really called WW1 (第一次世界大戦) in Japan in the 20s? Because by my understanding, it was called The Great War in the EN-speaking sphere and then renamed WW1 when WW2 happened. I tried looking a bit, but the only other name I saw was just an abbreviation. (This was written in 2016, set in 1924/Taishō 13.)

人力車 (じんりきしゃ) [n.] rickshaw. This is, in fact, the word from which “rickshaw” derives!

JP Wikipedia says it’s the same as in English speaking world (from what I can tell it seems to be referring to how it was called in Japan): 世界戦争 or 大戦争 until WW2 happened
edit: read down further and it seems to say 世界大戦 was most common in Japan actually

First manga finished! Completed Phantom Busters Vol 5 and now I’m sad that I have to wait months for whenever volume 6 will be coming 
Decided to start the next volume of Bluelock, because even though it wasn’t on my original goal list for the challenge, I have a lot of volumes of it on my shelf to get through so I thought I best haha.

Ooh, thanks. I tried to check Wikipedia but got a little overwhelmed trying to skim it and the only mention I actually saw of it being called anything other than (the equivalent of) WWI was the list of EN names at the very beginning.
And now I’m wondering why Kuga chose to use the anachronistic name, although I suppose I can only trust that the names used for the types of films are the ones in use back then (the only one I recognize is “talkie” lol)

Not much reading done. Just three pages No Game no Life novel. I finally finished the part, where the events of the past were told.
Right now I don’t have that much time to read I waste too much time on studying for JLPT and still have a bunch of english books I have to read.

Today, free-read Chap. 32 of よつばと！without lookups. My favourite parts of this series are when Yotsuba is interacting with strangers - their indulgent amusement is always so funny. The lady at the video store counter is charming.
It’s also fun to return to a time when we had to run back to the video store to return DVDs on time, and choose one or two more to take home. I wonder how young people reading よつばと today relate to this; does it make the comic seem super old-fashioned? A chapter about Yotsuba and her father browsing Netflix wouldn’t have the same story potential…
