Finally read through one sub chapter of Re:Zero. A bit confusing but could get my head around the last half of it. While thereโs only 8 pages on the next sub chapter I might call it a night since Iโve read so much today itโs kind of insane. Hence the unusual amount of updates.

Been sticking to 2 or three pages a day of Mr. ใใญใฆใใซใผ. I love this manga so much, these recent pages were relatively easy because of lots of repetition of words I recognise well (้ญๆณ, ใ่ถ) and easy context.
Normally I have to look up so many more words and ask a fluent (and kind and tolerant) friend of mine a heap of questions.

Card Captor Sakura volume 8 โ progress report
Yesterday: Read up to page 162, finished chapter 33.
Today: Read up to page 187, finished chapter 34 and volume 8. 
The chapter ended on a cute note: Sakura decided to send some of the Valentine chocolate she made to her great-grandpa and summoned the flower card to get her hands on some Nadeshiko flowers to go along. Tomoyoโs mother came by and took the present to forward it to her grandfather. Also, just as Sonomi said, Fujitaka sure had the guts to call her to deliver the present. 
But since it was Sakuraโs wish even Sonomi was okay with it.
I was taken aback for a second because I didnโt remember which play they did at Tomoeda school. 
I think I only saw โwhiteโ (ใใฏใคใ) once like ten years ago in a textbook during Japanese classes but I did not remember how it was written at all, so I may as well have seen it for the first time. But you make a good point: had I come across a Snow White play or any Christmas-y chapter during my reading so far, I probably would have encountered it sooner.

mixed feelings on today, in that chapter 5 (the final chapter of the volume) was amazing and offers a full flashback chapter, but also that my brain and heart werenโt fully in it. i ended up having to read it in chunks thanks to time constraints and just having other stuff to do and it really broke up the experience and my focus. i got to the ไป้ฒ (for some reason not ๅพๆธ in this volume? maybe cos itโs longer) and immediately closed the book again. iโll do that tomorrow and maybe reread the chapter as well.
words that stuck out: turns out ้ญ can also be read as ใใ, ๆใๆน (dawn), ็ฝๅ (albinism, bleaching), and ๆ (cane, walking stick)

To be honest, my first thought was, โDidnโt they just do a play of Snow White?โ I wondered if maybe it went by a different name in Japanese, only to find (be reminded that) their play was Sleeping Beauty.
In my defense, Iโve seen Disneyโs Snow White but I havenโt seen their Sleeping Beauty, so that probably impacts my memory when it comes to a sleeping lady and a prince.

I want to read this series when I want to and get urged by expectation, rather than being slowed by feeling difficult to understand or the book club. Also, I skimmed ahead, to Vol.9. There are 12 volumes, btw, so feeling slow.

Haha, my first thought was โisnโt that the same fairytale?โ but then I thought that Sleeping Beauty must be the one where she pricks her finger and sleeps for 100 years, right?
(The German names are Schneewittchen (= basically Snow-white in old-fashioned German) and Dornrรถschen (= Thorn-Rosie, perhaps?) so the name didnโt ring any bellโฆ)
Given this setup is a staple in fairytales, I donโt blame you

I started reading more regularly during my commute, and since the only book club Iโm part of right now is ๅ่ฝใก, which doesnโt provide enough reading material for a whole week, I needed a new book and decided to read ้็ฅ. Itโs from the same author as ใใใฟใฎๅญคๅ, which I have not read. Iโm 12% in now.
Anyway, it starts very school-focused, but has lots of creepy vibes. Also ๅ็ฝ vibes, which was also set in a school.
One part of the book makes me think, wow this is too much โIโm a highschool girl and i have a crush on my ๅ
่ผฉ and omg he noticed me! He walks me home every day! I talk to my two best friends about everything kyaaaโ
But on the other hand everything makes me think, there must be a huge plot going on where all her friends actually hate her/are jealous of her and they sent someone into the class to bully her.
I also think the ๅ
่ผฉ part would feel less weird if he had a personality. I hope he finds one somewhere during the book (maybe Iโm too harsh at 12%)
I like the writing style and the emotions. Emotions are good. In the beginning she thought something like โeveryone calls me a ๅช็ญ็ but I donโt think they mean it as a complimentโ, i felt that.
I could do with less โI think Iโm in loveโ and more dread and despair and fear. I really really hope there will be an insane plot twist where everyone turns out to actually hate her, and they were only pretending to like her all along. But weโll see what happens. Or maybe weโll see everything from the perspective of the bully/creep at one point and his story is gonna be super sad, like neglected by his parents, everyone is mean to him, etc.

Iโm sure you all know that Iโm in urgent need of new books because whatโs a tsundoku of just 15 books after all. Anyway, I just so happened to visit the Bookwalker site which I donโt check every few hours, as I honestly answered in the poll, and lo and behold, four books are on sale at 70% their regular price, and while the first two are out of the question for me because their covers are just too light-novelly, the other two are intriguing. Actually, I already had my eye on the last one, ใฆใผใใญใใซใฎใใกใๅด, which is a dystopia written by the latest Naoki prize winner, ๅฐๅทๅฒ. And the other one, ไบบ้ใใกใฎ่ฉฑ, is a collection of SF short stories that seem to be mostly absurd and humorous, with strong scientific basis and emphasis on the human factor. I think Iโm sold.
