had a hard time focusing today, so didn’t want to do too much intensive stuff. Just played some pokemon and kanken practice + my chapter for the day

Read:

  • 三ツ星カラーズ ch 4

Word of the Day
すれちがい (すれ違い) ー generally: missing (meeting) each other; passing each other. Here, specifically: the street-pass function of the nintendo 3DS. Remember when that was a thing?

What did I read?: 魔女と猫の話
How much did I read?: 5 pages
(Continued 3rd Story )
How long did it take me?: 57 min

Even though Chise is supposed to be a witch, so far the methods she’s used for curing the woman’s insomnia have been things even I could do! (Herbal teas, aromatic candles, music, etc.) But I guess the idea is that it’s better to start off with something more straightforward before getting magic involved.

コナの大冒険 第 39 話 :black_cat:

And I’m back to reading about Kona’s adventures. After only 4 days of reading with furigana, it took me quite a while to adjust to having no furigana on Satorireader for kanji I had already learned. In this chapter, I could count with two hands the number of kanji that had furigana so I had to figure out the readings for the rest of them myself. And failed miserably at some… :face_with_spiral_eyes: using the wrong reading for a few of them. Strange how only a few days of having furigana can have such an effect. I didn’t realize how much I used furigana as a crutch until now. And also how much Satorireader is actually able to help me with exercising my recall!

New vocab:
  • 気がする(きがする) to have a hunch, to have a feeling
  • ひょっとすると perhaps, possibly, maybe
  • かもしれない may, might, possibly
  • 駆け下りる(かけおりる) to run down
  • はぐれる to lose sight of, to stray from
  • 帰り道 (かえりみち) way home

Just curious, what are the numbers measuring? I can’t figure it out

Oh, sorry, that is pages per day (the corresponding date is above the number). The line starting with “Februar” can be ignored though

Read some more この本を盗む者は, but I’m still going pretty slowly. Played nearly 2.5h of BU$TAFELLOWS and finished chapter 4! Which is supposedly the end of the common route so can’t wait to find out what’s next.

Ah I see, it’s very precise :stuck_out_tongue:

In most cases it’s recalculated from ebook pages, that’s why the numbers are so weird… probably one digit would be enough though, I agree

And for recording the time, are you using Toggl? I seem to recognize the interface. Very cool to have all those stats, now you can also make a speed graph with page / min, and compare how it evolves in time or per book :stuck_out_tongue:
And very inspiring stats too, I hope to get there one day! (Still working my way through my grammar books so far, combined with Bunpro, Satori Reader, WK and listening practice, it’s steadily going forward!)

The service is called clockify: https://app.clockify.me

You mean…

like this?

These are all the books I finished in May - Dec. 2022 (May is when I started recording).

For those who can’t read German: the columns are:
Year finished / title / start / end / days read / avg. pages per hour / avg. pages per reading day / physical pages / total time.

Aria: the masterpiece volume 3 – progress report
Yesterday: Read up to page 197.
Today: Finished chapter 28 and continued up to page 320.

Chapter 28 was nice as we got to learn about those Sylphs. The ending to this chapter seemed amusing too, though I’m not sure I fully understood it – something along the lines of a an Undine riding an airbike being at fault for making Aika’s underpants show with Akari being almost a bit too shocked and embarrassed as a result…almost as if she and Woody(?) may have been at fault for that… :smiling_face_with_tear:

Also, Woody making Akari use the president as a blindfold to not ruin the surprise he had in mind for her – while they were driving to somewhere – was quite the imaginative idea…not to mention dangerous. ‘No Marsian cats were harmed in this chapter, I swear!’ – Kozue Amano 200X, probably.
Poor Aria. :joy:

Ah thanks, didn’t know about Clockify, looks like it’s pretty similar to Toggle.
Waw so much stats  Very cool to see the reading speed ramping up!

I had made something similar when I was reading a Polish book, don’t think I’ll keep it up for Japanese though, I’m getting lazy with tracking data now

book reading stats

I was highlighting and looking up each new words and tracking that too

spacer:bust_in_silhouette: シャドーハウス Volume 5 (15% ➨ 17%)

spacer:baby_chick: ひよ恋 Volume 1 (37% ➨ 50%)

「ひよ恋」 was kind of a random pick to start reading, and I wasn’t certain what to expect. It started out a bit so-so, and I didn’t care much for the male lead character. But I think it’s getting a bit better.

Not Aika’s, Akari’s. Look back on the flying scenes and you can imagine how that worked out for her.

today was a better day (mostly) and have now finished shimanami tasogare vol 3! props to this volume for having a character genuinely piss me off (not that vol 2 didn’t have that, but that was more ‘what are you doing’ compared to just outright rage), 10/10 recommend.

words that stood out: 修繕 (しゅうぜん, repair, mending), 開放感 (かいほうかん, sense of space/openness), 相まって (あいまって, coupled with, together), plus 絶叫マシン (ぜっきょうマシン, thrill ride (at an amusement park)) just cos that’s a really fun word

Day 37
It was the worst day for reading this year just 15 pages of Kindaichi Shounen manga vol.2.

2756 pages read which is just a small step towards the goal of reading 20000 pages this year. Can this even be achieved? Probably not.

Read at a glimpse. Kanji would be easier. Kana and grammar might be harder. Practically I can do this in English. I haven’t really tested this style in Japanese, nonetheless.

It’s indeed a different kind of reading than usual sequential reading.

Perhaps Wanikani + External Definition script + fast review, would prepare for this.

Probably the first time grammar dictionaries on Yomichan is proven useful. (From a thread in Wanikani Community)
