Re-Reading Club: Gauging Interest

I do a lot of rereading but I don't think you mean this

I reread a lot on a mini scale, as in, for my main reading i reread today what i read yesterday. Then I read a new section and then reread it. That is my session. It works best for prose, for me, but sometimes I’ll do manga like that if it’s very wordy. Read #1 takes more time than any rereads. But the rereads improve my comprehension and help me remember words I just looked up way more than the first pass. It’s very efficient entertainment and learning wrapped up together.

On a longer time scale, I am so enjoying the しろくまカフェ reread. I had previously read some of vol 1 and like you say it is so fun to read it again with the better knowledge I have now.

There is series of books I love that I do the other way around. Read first for fun and get carried away. Then read again more closely and notice more details, lookup unknown words etc.

what I imagined here when I saw this post come up was to poll previous picks and run great book clubs again. For some people it’s new and for others it’s a reread. Maybe starting after しろくまカフェ in that case…

How about RBC Replay Book Club ?

For Re-Reading in particular I think the benefit is that it should be faster than the first time. Seeing that improvement is really nice and rewarding.

But if it’s the first time I’m reading a book that already had the club finish years ago, I might not be as fast as someone who originally participated in that club years ago…

I like the idea of running through past book club picks for anyone who missed them. But I’m not sure on the pacing because I would think the rereaders should (want) to go fast and the first timers would want to go slower.

I am very late to the table. But I think if you stick to IBC, BBC (or even ABBC?) reads with a fast pace, that should keep rereaders happy while catering to first timers with a more confident reading level. If you were reading アフターダーク or コーヒーが冷めないうちに at a brisk pace, for example, I’d be very inclined to join.
