I’m a WaniKani user and I greatly appreciate the platform for its effectiveness in teaching kanji.
I was wondering if there are any plans to integrate JLPT kanji (N1) in the future that are not currently covered by WaniKani. I’d like to know if an official integration is being considered to complete JLPT coverage.
Thanks in advance for any information you can share!
I don’t think there are any plans for JLPT coverage. JLPT Kanji are not 100% known so any list you find on the Internet you should take with a grain of salt.
They do add one or the other Kanji here or there, depending on if they think it is actually relevant. Though I don’t think that we will get the complete Joyou set without them adding some more levels. Otherwise, some levels would be too crowded with material.
An additional problem you have with the remaining Joyou is that they are mostly used in very specific words, so you would have maybe 1, maximum 2 useful vocabulary associated with them. At that point it might be easier to just learn these few words on your own instead of first drilling the Kanji and then moving on to the vocabulary as WaniKani does it.
See the recently added 惹くas an example.
