Native Japanese games to practice studying with

Hi! So I’ve been looking around trying to find a good game I’d enjoy while also using it for studying and I’m finding most if not all the games that were translated into Japanese don’t have great translations. Now I’ve been looking for games originally made in Japanese to have a better experience but I don’t know a lot and I’d like some recommendations. I know a few big ones like the Pokemon, Mario, and Final Fantasy franchises but I’d like some others since I’d like something chill but also around my level.

It’s hard to say if those difficulties will line up with where you’re at, as they’re based on Adam’s learning order. At the very least, there’s a lot of titles in there.

That looks to be a pretty decent list, thank you

I recently started playing Final Fantasy 6 on my Gameboy Advance SP since it is one of the few GBA games with Kanji and it even lets you select Kanji or Hiragana in the settings.

One site I’ve found invaluable is this one:

It’s really helpful to be able to check translations at this point in my learning. Plus, that page provides an interesting comparison with the localization that was done for the English version.

But the main use for me was to catch up on all the text that comes up too quickly for me to read during the intro and other parts.

So far it’s been of moderate difficulty for me even with some of the terms that are specific to the genre like 魔大戦. I’d rank it as easier than Harry Potter :joy:

I would also recommend The Legend of Zelda The Minish Cap as it has Kanji as well and it’s an easier time since much of the gameplay isn’t centered around dialogue.
