Well, that doesn’t sound right. Did Amazon accidentally hire an actual human being to their HR department?
欧州=ヨーロッパ
I had complete forgotten this kanji…
Ah, no. There was definitely a 弁護士 involved.
A few new words (using kanji I know!) from The Journalist on Netflix:
新聞記者(しんぶんきしゃ)journalist
逮捕状(たいほじょう)arrest warrant
経産省(けいさんしょう)Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
財務省(ざいむしょう)Ministry of Finance
詐欺(さぎ)fraud
じゅんちょう
順調
Na-adjective (keiyodoshi), Noun
- favourable; favorable; doing well; OK; all right
たとえば:「今日の作業も順調だよー!」
Today’s work is also going well!
救急箱-first aid kit. I was able to guess the meaning and reading since I know 救急車.
Not really a word, but here are a bunch of cavity inducing romantic pun days
エイ = 鱝・鱏・鰩・海鷂魚
Not sure which Kanji form is more common, but Yourei has only the second one, while Forvo has all four.
Yeah, it makes sentence searching difficult. (Kana form is too short.)
I don’t think any of the kanji are common. Nearly all people would be familiar with the katakana, and kanji junkies may know the kanji.
倶楽部. Trying to hunt down a copy of the ファミコン探偵倶楽部 Nintendo Switch remake and had no idea how to read the full name… lol. At first sight it looks like ateji but it actually works well even with meanings included.
(Of course the locals call it just ファミタン.)
I think this might be a set expression:
金が全て
money is everything
A japanesepod101 lesson translated 金が全てだ as “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby!” ![]()
I think it’s more of a metaphor. 全て can be pretty loosely used.
How do you like JapanesePod101? I used to use it in the past as well.
I like it. The shortish lessons and the way they build on one another work for me. There’s also a quiz every three lessons. As a podcast, it’s pretty terrible (the lessons are presented out of order and there are a lot of “News” episodes that are actually advertisements), but following the pathways they’ve set up on their website works pretty well.
Yes, I did the Absolute Beginner and Beginner pathways, but then stopped, because I noticed later pathways focus more on vocabulary and specific set phrases rather than general language proficiency. I think it’s good as a supplementary material, though ![]()
Got the kanji for 賢い on Renshuu, but had JJK playing in the background. It happened to be the episode that features 賢い about 10 sentences in a row. Good repetition lol
ポン - onomatopoei for tap, slap, pop, crack, etc., or methamphetamine
Some new words:
木漏れ日 (こもれび) sunlight filtered through trees
訪ねる (たずねる) to visit
アザラシ seal
遊歩道 (ゆうほどう) promenade
薄力粉 (はくりきこ) cake flour
泡だて器 (あわだてき) egg beater
Recent realizations:
パソコン is short for パーソナルコンピューター
Usopp’s name has 嘘 in it
I already knew 壁 from kabedon
見栄っ張り [みえっぱり] vain person, ostentatious person, show off, pretentious person.
Came across while looking over an article/story in the Todai Easy Japanese app.
媚びる (こびる) to flirt
性能 (せいのう) ability
月経痛 (げっけいつう) period cramps
かまう to mind; to care about
媚 (こび) flirtation, flattery
扱う (あつかう) to deal with; to handle
旦那 (だんな) husband
クラゲ jellyfish
猫の手も借りたい - To be super busy (lit: Wanting to borrow help from a cat)
/edit I see it a few posts up, so I guess it stands out! Seems to be a known expression.
