I am looking at intermediate text book options and have decided to choose either Quartet or Minna no Nihongo chukyu, has anyone had any experience with either of these books and can recommend either? I’m especially struggling to find information about Minna from anyone whose finished it. Thank you so much!
Hello I have a good experience with Quartet, I have finished the first one and about to start the second one. We made a study group here on the community and were a few doing it at the same time. We also gathered info on it over there, check it out and let me know if you have more questions:
Good morning from the UK! Having completed Quartet 1 & 2, I would definitely recommend them. I haven’t used Minna so cannot comment on that but I found that Quartet greatly expanded my ability to read (my main goal for learning the language), I also used an Anki Deck in parallel to help to learn and retain the vocab. The main complaint I have seen against Quartet is that the output sections require a speaking partner/tutor for correction. This wasn’t really an issue for me as I really god a lot from the reading sections and grammar explanations but I can understand why people may think that. If you need any further info I am happy to reply.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, also I am also from UK! Did you find it difficult getting hold of the text books? I’ve noticed that they’re really hard to find shipping from the UK, best is Amazon but they’re very expensive!
I got them from this website;
They were a reasonable price and dispatched super quick, very happy with the service. A lot of other good things on there! Glad to hear I’m not the only one in the UK who gets a lot of odd questions as to why I’m learnning Japanese then
Quartet
(also like Tobira a bit, but there are more resources at the moment for Quartet)
I have みんなの日本語中級 but don’t feel as motivated for it as much
I dunno how the price compares but they’re good
