Thanks
The learning zone is set at 85 to 95%. Above or below means you are doing ‘too well’ or ‘too badly’ respectively. Don’t take them too seriously but you can consider to do more or fewer lessons depending on that report, especially if it is consistent over time.
Okay thank you, but how is it bad to do “too well” ? Should I consider to do more lessons a day ?
It’s not bad but it is an indication you are in your ‘wanikani comfort zone’. I never had that problem! I’d be more inclined to add extra/different Japanese study if you have time. Also WK kinda gets more difficult at higher levels. Just take it as feedback that you can act on or ignore.
I think it is also a way to remind you that making mistakes is normal and even useful for learning.
In my case, I already knew a lot of the kanji and vocabulary in the early levels (at least, most of the levels 1 to 5). After that, I’m basically a beginner and know almost nothing
. Because of that, I was able to set the max daily lessons to 100, review multiple times a day, and still get most answers correct. The widget still flagged me as “outside the learning zone” because I wasn’t getting much wrong.
I think WaniKani assumes that, if you’re getting almost everything right, you might not be challenging yourself enough, so it suggests taking on more lessons or reviews (even when it’s not possible, like in my case). The Knowledge Guide also mentions that this happens a lot in the early levels, and I believe it’s also normal if you come in with prior knowledge.
Believe it or not, mistakes can actually boost your retention by making it a little painful to lose and so you try to compensate by giving it extra attention and so next time you have a boosted chance of getting it right and avoiding that small defeat and it gets reinforced correctly.
I set mine to gauge over a 7 day period because one tough day shouldn’t be the stamina drain it looks like when your correct rating drops like a rock and so I get about 88% correct reviews and sometimes it drops to 87.4%. I think this means I have a bit more gas left in the tank? I should step it up? But its such a comfy and sustainable pace already(25 cards a day) and I’m not going to get benefit from doing more lessons a day because there are already some days where I have no lessons because I did them all.
It is possible. You can do up to however many lessons are available to you. The setting of 100 max lessons sets the maximum number of lessons which will be shown to on the default home page. You can select the “Advanced” tab and as many more (until there are no more of course) as you want at any time.
Oh no, I meant MORE than 100 lol. I already use the max settings.
