Reached level 6 today! Actually was a bit unexpected because I still had lots of vocab lessons to get through. Things are starting to get a bit harder, but still chugging along.

I’ve started using the Smouldering Durtles app which is great, and have continued to clear my reviews daily with occasional lessons.

I’ve also watched a few of the ToKini Andy Genki 1 grammar videos, and he does a good job of explaining things clearly.

I also got a book called Conversational Japanese from a second hand book store but haven’t done much with it yet.

Really looking forward to when I can start reading simple things, and especially when I can start playing some Japanese RPGs in Japanese!

My partner is starting to become inspired to learn a language too. They’re not so keen on Japanese though, haha.

Hope everyone’s going well and having fun learning.

It definitely hell difficulty with how much mistake I been making with the recent levels lol.

Somehow made it to level 39! I took things a bit slower since I was always behind in vocabulary by a few levels. So, I paced myself to 1 kanji a day and a lot of vocab catch up. I think it paid off since I’m not behind by much now. I want to really clear my vocab before heading to level 40. Wish me luck :crabigator:

It does feel a little bit slower the higher I go that probably just me since you know mistaken and memorization, but it a good thing since it help me remember vocab and grammar more easily.

You’re not the only one - my accuracy has definitely dropped in the 30s, but it’s okay! We’ll just either brute force or eventually be able to memorize them :fire::flexed_biceps:

Hello again!

I said hello here first time around a year ago, then I gave up on WK last May or June and now I’m back with even more scenic (slow) plan. Just hoping I can regularly review and not give up again. :turtle:

I put my name in the top list this time! :slightly_smiling_face:

Welcome again o/ Glad you could join us in durtling this year. I hope you can find your own pace and good luck with keeping consistent :flexed_biceps:

Yes, I’m going for consistency instead of looking at stats this time, thank you for wishing me luck!

I finally got to level 40!!! This is the fastest I’ll ever level this year (in under two weeks).

I was originally going to go at my original pace of 5 lessons a day. However, the milestone reward I’ve been eyeing was finally back in stock (I’m not sure they’re planning on restock anymore, but that aside), so I decided to jump the gun and order. Shipping would take around two weeks, so I did some calculations to see how to speed up and decided to front load my kanji lessons. My reward came in two days ago, so just about on time!

That aside, I doubt I’ll be able to keep up with that pace. I was pushing almost 30 lessons a day, which does not fit my current schedule (or my brain). I’ll probably go at a pace of 2 kanji lessons a day at the very least.

I do hope to reach the paradise levels by the end of the year! And maybe finally kick my lazy butt and read one volume of manga I have on hand.

hold up… milestone reward???
is this a real thing or are you just rewarding yourself? :sob:

Ahaha just rewarding myself! I’ve been trying to reward myself every 5 levels

aw, i wish i had thought to do that for myself
i suppose it’s not too late, but i can’t really afford to be buying myself gifts right now
i do have a party planned for when i “finish” level 60 (guru the kanji), but that won’t be until december 2027, shortly before my 40th birthday

Yea that’s understandable. I’ve been doing small rewards like cake/sweets, but level 40 was a big one for me so I wanted to treat myself.

A level 60 party sounds fun - and right before your 40th! How exciting

When I started wanikani back in 2020, I had just got married and had two kids shortly thereafter so my actual stats for the wanikani stats generator look really terrible. But I’ve been pretty serious over the past 2 months and I’m averaging right now 28 days per level only doing 10 lessons per day and taking a break on one day a week with zero lessons only reviews. I average 90% correct most days on those reviews.

To keep up and come back despite many life changes is admirable! That sounds like a great pace to go at. The rest day on lessons actually sounds like a good idea to not burn out too much. I might incorporate that in my routine since I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed these days :eyes: Good luck and happy durtling!

Honestly I really love learning Japanese as language not just the kanji you know? To me studying Japanese is like eating a bowl of ramen or a good bowl of rice not junk food like scrolling on YouTube shorts but I genuinely feel mentally satisfied after a good study sesh . I’ve described this to my husband as well but I feel like in my downtime where I’m not actively studying Japanese I can almost literally feel my subconscious chewing on the stuff and sometimes a word in Japanese just comes to mind and I literally feel the connections happening. …:sweat_smile:how weird is that huh:face_with_peeking_eye:
