:durtle_hello: Let's Durtle the Scenic Route 🐢

Ayy congratz on lvl 36!!

I’ve also been getting a few words and kanjis wrong more and more lately. In the past, I would just sit down for an extra session and really review them. I would even go as writing them down a few times and that would usually do the trick. Maybe that could help you out? (I say this, but I’ve been lazy in doing this myself - I really should sit down and carve out some time again for those stragglers).

Good luck with your studies o/

I happen to use Marumori for grammar study. When I noticed I’m strugging on some vocab on Wanikani, I add it on Marumori as well. Double SRS on some words, more work, but also more practice!

I’m less strict with reviews on Marumori so it doesn’t feel as stressful for me.

Oh that’s smart! As you said, it all comes down to just more exposure and practice

Oof, this level dragged me a bit, but finally at level 37! I had made so many mistakes this level, so it pushed my progress behind. I’ve been losing a bit of steam lately, but I still want to make it to September (my goal earlier this year)! So close :fire:

Lv 40!

Hitting a new stage feels really good! (I know ‘天国 PARADISE’ starts at 41, but still!)

Never thought I would have gotten this far, but there is still 1/3 of the way left!

Huge congratz!!! You’re doing great :flexed_biceps:

I finally managed to reach ten! Yay!

I realised, that I always enjoy or dislike groups of vocabulary, depending on the Kanji they use. For example 勝「しょう」just sits right with me and I have a relatively easy time memorising the words that use it, like 勝者、必勝 or even 勝負and 勝つ.

Everything related to 定「てい」on the other hand is a nightmare. 仮定 assumption、決定 decision、予定 plan - I can read all of them but the meanings are really difficult for me!

Congrats! That is amazing! :raising_hands::sparkles:

Congratz on level 10! Now you join the double digits with us ;D

I too love the kanji 勝 as it’s pretty straightforward. Maybe if you see more 定 words in the wild, those words/kanji will eventually click in your head. I find the word 予定 and 決定 comes up a lot in native materials once you start reading more (especially 予定 in everyday conversations).

Thank you!

What native materials do you read?

At the moment I’ve just been playing games with Japanese text and reading JP content on social media (following JP accounts). I’ve been attempting to read some manga, but I’ve been pretty lazy on that front. If you look up some JP youtubers, a lot of them do a good job with putting on Japanese subtitles. It’s nice to get listening practice and follow along the text to see how kanji we’ve learned is read.

Made it to level 38 today!

I’m happy that I’ve been able to keep up with WaniKani till this month (which was my mini goal after I got past spring). I’ll definitely treat myself again to keep up the motivation.

I’m crossing my fingers that I can reach level 40 before the year ends… wish me luck. Happy durtling everyone :durtle_hello:

A bit late but thank you.

Hi everyone,

I like the idea of the scenic route, so might pop over here every so often. I’m enjoying slowly drifting through level three, keeping up with reviews and doing a couple sets of lessons when I have the time and brain power.

My goal is to just not fall behind on reviews, and so far I’ve been able to get to them daily. I’m also looking forward to signing up for a subscription once I’ve completed all the vocab. I’m thinking of doing monthly to start, and will consider either yearly or lifetime if I’m going well and staying consistent :turtle:

Welcome to the durtle scene :durtle_hello: good luck with keeping your reviews consistent ~

The lifetime discount sale should be coming up by the end of the year, so that might be something to think about over the next few months. I definitely found it worth it since I’ve been here since the end of 2021

Reached level four today!

I’ll likely get a monthly for now and take a look at the sales later this year.

Also started using a recommended anki deck (jlabs beginner course) that’s teaching me some grammar. It’s pretty fun but I miss knowing all the kanji. Although I’ve already spotted one or two from WaniKani in the vocab! Looking forward to slowly understanding more.

Lv45! Finally I reach the final quater!

It’s been a long time. I first started at the end of 2020, burnt out twice, and this is the 3rd time. And I put in so much effort into my consistency. Third time really is the charm I guess?

I will definitely stick with it till I reach lv60. Now I’ve started to read more native content, still struggling a lot since my grammar is way behind my kanji level, but there’s hardly any kanji I haven’t seen before, so thats very nice.
