Hi all, I’ll be taking the N2 this weekend and am pretty excited. To be honest, I haven’t prepared as much as I had hoped so I’m going into it expecting to fail.
I was wondering what advice people may have to best ready myself for the exam on Sunday, and if you have any tips/tricks!
I’ve been doing the Bunpro practice papers every day, and going to try some Migii ones as well in lead up to the exam!
Have you taken a JLPT before? If not, make sure you know the format, both in terms of question types (especially listening), and how they run the exams (long explanations and lots of checks prior to each section, at least here in Japan). N2 is quite time-pressured for reading, but it’s too late to do much about reading speed, so if you think you might be tight on time based on past papers, just make sure you know to keep an eye on time and don’t get bogged down in questions for too long.
And yes, get plenty of rest, make sure you’re prepared logistics-wise so you can just focus on the test. The test is close enough that you probably can’t pick up many marks from studying new content, so focus on strategy and getting used to the act of test-taking. If you’re doing past papers, I recommend printing out some and doing them physically with the exam-style answer sheet to get used to the physical exam too if you can, rather than only doing past papers on the computer.
Good luck!
For N2 as of July, there are 3 word-formation questions and 4 text grammar questions instead of 5 for each now, and only 8 mid-sized reading questions rather than 9. But very minor changes, each only makes a minute or two difference for timings, and the overall time is still the same as when there were the extra 4 questions. Otherwise the information on there is accurate
I wish I was taking it, I was originally going to sign up but fate said no.
So I’ll be taking a mock exam along with y’all. Get some good sleep!!! And don’t burn yourself out doing practice exams, try to relax on Saturday, do some easy (fun) listening instead.
Just took my exam yesterday! I honestly have no idea how I went, but I think it went ok - so thank you everyone for the advice and tips!
Time management wasn’t too bad, I had around 20 minutes left over after the reading, vocab, grammar section so I was able to look through my answers twice. I didn’t expect some of the listening sections to be so quick haha.
All in all, super happy to have taken the test. I think I’ll keep doing some lowkey studying until the results come out in January. I hope everyone did well!
Well I messed up my timing on the reading and barely finished - I was skimming more than I wanted to be. You weren’t sitting next to me were you?! Person to my left finished really early.
