This is Saint Aria, a big city in the human world.
The vampire girl “Venedict” came to this city after receiving a mysterious invitation (and getting thrown out by her sister)! She’s joined by the fluffy werewolf Arisa, the dreamy demon Eve, and the mild-mannered Fran, and they decide to share a house!
These modern-day monster girls are on a rampage in the human world, and they’ll always be close and have lots of laughs! The cutest yuri comedy visual novel in the world!

I think we’ll just keep the discussion in this thread and not make separate threads for each week.
Please don’t read ahead! The goal for this club is to read together and experience the VN together. Let’s read the episode for each week together and discuss that episode together before starting the next episode.
It looks like you can start any episode at any time, so if you fall behind, don’t worry! You can always jump to the current episode and read the past episodes later.
By the way, did you try to use a texthooker? Or do you just read the text? I still need a texthooker I’m afraid. Luckily I got LunaHost to work. Textractor was unable to find the right process. Now I’m ready to start reading for real on Monday!
No text hooker. I mostly read on console and I’m too lazy to set up such things. I probably should have used one for Flowers, as that one was somewhat difficult. But I hope it’ll be fine for this one. Although, I have no idea what I’m about to read exactly, actually.
I have started to read a little. First impressons: This is harder than I thought! I have to use a texthooker for sure. When you read from the console only, do you understand everything? Do you look up a lot? Or do you just read what you can understand?
I’m not giving up though! I think I’ll try to read through the episode twice and see if it’s easier the second time.
A few (Marco and the galaxy dragon, Neko para, Tokyo school life) were bilingual, so no problem there. I just glance at the English text
I think Christmas Tina was a bit difficult for the kanji, but not that hard otherwise. With Flowers I looked up a lot at times, but then I got lazy. I regret reading Flowers like that instead of in English or (probably better) with a text hook. I just really didn’t want to play games on PC at the time.
I found out that, at least for the Steam version of Everlasting Flowers, you can press hand hold the number 2 to see the English translation.
The first part of Kirakira Monstars (with the monster) was the hardest. I think that was a prologue? When I went to the menu and selected Episode 1, it started from the taxi scene, and that felt a lot easier.
I have been reading VNs with a Google translate window until now (when there’s no English translation). Read in Japanese first, check Google translate to see if I understood correctly, re-read the Japanese. For Kirakira Monstars, I want to try not to use Google translate too much. Just a text hooker and paste the text into a web page so I can look it up.
I think I’ll try out text hooking. Even if just to try out the workflow. I probably don’t really care if I don’t understand all the details in this game. I don’t even know anything about it. But maybe I’ll really want to use that workflow with a future VN.
As I understand it, text hookers usually paste the text on a local website, so that you can use whatever extensions you have in your web browser. I actually have an extension that connects with my jpdb.io account (a SRS implementation) and not only provides a hover dictionary, but colors the words by their status (whether I know them) and lets me add new words to a deck. Though it might not work so well when I have to parse the page again every time I advance to the next screen in the game.
Not saying that these are the best tools, but they seem to be working right now.
I use LunaHost to extract the text from the VN to clipboard (invisible in the picture, running minimized).
Then I use JL to get the text from the clipboard back to the VN (the extra line of text you see along the top of my screen). With JL, you can hover and look up words easily. I think you can also import to Anki, but I haven’t tried that yet.
When not playing in full screen, I use Texthooker and 10ten.
It reminds me of Marco and the galaxy dragon. Seems to be in the same genre. Marco was also very wild.
Some of the voices are very fast. Or they are more quiet than others. And the kaiju is just terrible. But all in all it seems to be heavy dialog heavy and have a lot of voice over. I think it’s going to be much easier to understand because of that than Flowers.
I learned about manji, which (here) means “wow, yeah, awesome…” but the kanji is just a swastika .
Oh, and I just saw that it says “season 1” when you start the game. I would have preferred a complete game, tbh.
I know it says Season 1, but it’s a complete game I think. There is no season 2!
I haven’t kept track of my character count, but I think I’m close to 10.000 characters in, and still not at the end of the first episode. I’m enjoying it though, and learning a lot!
Finished the first episode just in time! It looks fun so far… 4 monsters of different kinds, living together in a shared house, Big Brother style. My favorite character is Venedict I think… Looking forward to seeing more next week!
I’m also glad that the next episode seems to be shorter. This was a lot to read in one week!
I’m sorry, but I’m not going to read this. I read it for about 40 minutes and I just didn’t like it (requested a refund on steam). I suppose it’s not my type of humor.
