I learn words better when i know their etymology, the ‘story‘ of how they came to get their meanings. If youre having trouble memorising a word, this blog has excellent resources on where kanji came from. Most of this information isnt taught in japanese schools, and for that reason it usually doesnt make it into english –> japanese learning resources. Nevertheless, native speakers of japanese still learn these etymologies slowly and surely as they are passed down from generation to generation.
