This looks great! ^>^
I think this is a good idea. I’d go with using post # 3 as the Wiki, to make the OP post less cluttered.

Looks and sounds good to me!
Thank you for making this calendar and providing the code for it.
I second @ekg 's suggestion to add the wiki in one of the posts below the topic post to avoid having to much going on in one post.
Third post is now a wiki! Everyone, feel free to add your own calendars if you like, and edit as you wish.
@pocketcat, I took the liberty to add your calendar so that I could see how more than one calendar looked together. I hope that’s okay.
Oh gosh, totally fine. I just feel bad mine looks so awful on mobile It looks fine on desktop which is where I made it since typing that much markdown on my phone is not something I want to do.
Thanks for the links on the Kanji Advent Calendar, @Zakarius. That must have been a lot of work! I removed my name from these calendars as the credit should go to you, really. By the way, I only added my name so as to easily distinguish my calendar from anyone else’s that might be similar. It’s fine to have nearly identical calendars up there, which will be updated by different people the way they like them. As I said before, anything goes, and this is all just for fun.
I had a quick look at the 24 link, by the way, and was surprised to see so many kanji with 24 strokes on Jisho, when there were only 2 on Wikipedia. I wonder why…
It may not be very compact, but I don’t think it can be helped unless you hide the short story titles. But it’s nice that the titles are easy to read, so really I wouldn’t worry about aesthetics too much
No worries! I went to add my own kanji calendar with links but then realised it was pretty much exactly the same as yours so just added it as an extra so it’s easier for anyone wanting to search for them, I meant to say in a comment but kinda forgot
I think the difference is that the Wiki list just has the ‘common’ kanji listed (say common, there’s like 2,000 or so on there) and Jisho has some real obscure ones that hardly ever come up, I think some don’t even have words associated with them.
I searched for higher than 24 just to see and it gets to about 34 I think before they stop showing up. Though I googled it and there’s some ridiculous 60+ stroke kanji that are only used in extremely rare names, but I don’t think we’ll be needing to write those… unless someone really wants to
i’m gonna try and challenge myself and do the ‘read a book sample a day’ one, so if anyone has any recommendations? i’ll be having a peek through bookwalker later.
i might not manage the full sample every time but i’m gonna try
I really like the idea of listening to a song each day (perhaps with Christmas / winter theme, or since it’s leading up to New Years also famous 紅白歌合戦 songs?), and maybe bonus points for reading the lyrics
Recochoku has some nice pre-arranged category lists:
Does make me kind of want to go past Christmas and all the way to 12/31, though!
A Hatsumoude Calendar?
Make an Epiphany Calendar. That’s on January 6th.
Okay, I totally did it:
Japanese Winter/Christmas Song Advent-ish Calendar (Dec 1 - Dec 31)
I tried to have a mix of artists and genres (mostly sourced from Recochoku lists above, plus this Winter-themed anime song list and this winter enka recommendations list as well as a couple personal favorites), but my own personal music preferences definitely come through (there’s no vocaloid, for example).
And if you’re not into traditional “must wait and open on the day” advent calendars, including the list below:
Also, as a bonus, a few songs that didn’t quite make it in:
[Let it Snow! - Dean Fujioka] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcY8r32gBpw https://utaten.com/lyric/sa17111303/
[スノースマイル - Bump of Chicken] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA7o4ZZNnks https://utaten.com/lyric/ja00010554/
[津軽恋女 - 新沼謙治] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfLsCKaaP_M https://utaten.com/lyric/rl15102239/
[BLIZZARD - BURNOUT SYNDROMES] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP-MnPA3JCU https://utaten.com/lyric/nm21042853/
[灯り - ストレイテナー×秦 基博] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmiPA8bPJzQ https://utaten.com/lyric/sa17101710/
Sweet! I’ve just bookmarked this and will definitely be joining in on this musical calendar and also the ascending stroke order kanji one by OP! Yayyyyy! Finally feeling the Christmas season!
My Pet photo calendar always does too, sometimes even out in January
I lost some pets this year though, so will be just shy of New Years Eve (consider doing a mouse and rat just to fill the month )
I have 29 pets/hobby animals, so + a mouse and a rat (feeder breeders) and I’ll hit 31 =)
I do have a favorite mouse, so know just who to pick there! And just picked out some new keeper rats, I’ll use one of them
I love the Song idea! Will follow along!
Wow thanks! I saved it too! And thanks for the extra links, checking them out!
Ah it’s so easy to go over, isn’t it?
Wow, that’s a lot of pets / animals, though! That’s super cool.
If you’re going to 31 and have one among your menagerie, it would be tempting to end on a rabbit since 2023 will be 卯年(うさぎ年)in 十二支.
I did that for year of the rat
But I have no rabbit though. I used to, but not anymore.
Grew up with bunnies as my first pet. And, well, they multiplied like rabbits
I got a new one as an adult to relive my old joy, just to find I didn’t feel the same anymore, I much prefer my cats and dogs. I ended up selling him again after just a few months, too much poop cleaning and chewing
Maybe if I get a proper yard some day, but where I live now it wasn’t a good fit.
But I can do the opposite!
I’ll put my tiger (toyger cat) as the last, to see the year of the tiger off
I have a similar schedule, but I was thinking of just skipping the week. Would just skipping that portion not work for you?
Alternate option: a lizard with a rabbit-ear headband?
The lizards are too small =P
Would have to be a furred pet
But I’m not doing accessories on them though. So would have to be a separate January First with a pet that has been in the calendar already =P
I’ll see- I have some bunny like clothes for the dogs, could do the three of them with the bunny hoodie on
I also have some extra work around those parts, plus maybe one VN club starts then (at the time of my first post, I thought maybe two VN clubs would start then, but doesn’t look like it right now). So I don’t know if I have time to do anything extra beyond daily reading Japanese (I plan to do the off month on REDC).
I think I’d already planned quite a lot in December, several of them advent calendar stuff or daily commitments, and such, so not sure I have the space to add a specific Japanese calendar thing on top of it. Plus travel tends to disrupt me for more than just the time I’m away.
There is always next year.
I hope it goes well for you though!
One advent calendar is clearly not nearly enough ( ) so I added another one that I intend to follow. It’s an origami calendar, complete with links to instructional videos. I only found one channel that actually had spoken instructions as well, and chose that because it can double as my listening practice for December. The lady speaks slowly, clearly, and obviously has only limited things to say about the things she’s making, so it should be easy listening. I intend to watch one video every day, and hopefully follow along as best I can. If my creations are presentable, I’ll even post them here. Maybe even if they aren’t.
