Hold up, lol. You’re telling me that as a blanket statement, lifetime is worth it at any point? So for all level 50s, or even for @RysingDragon, that spending hundreds of extra dollars is worth it? Maybe you misworded what you were trying to say, but to say thats the case for everyone is pretty absurd. Especially when you can just export reviews to HouHou for free, which replaces WK entirely post 60 when youre not learning anything new.
We can agree to disagree on this one.
Exactly. Is that extra cost always worth it, since for some people, it means not being able to put their money towards more useful resources?
I’m tired so I’ll be quick. I’m not saying: $200 or $300 for the same thing, pay 300. That’s just stupid, of course. What I’m saying is: investing in your education is a good thing. Those $200 today will make you 10x as much in money/pleasure/happiness whatever in the long-term. So it’s okay not to be all “I need free free free, anything else will not pay me back”.
No, nothing like that. On that, I 100% agree with you. ( @Vanilla agree, not disagree f*ck )
I’m not saying that. I’m not saying to sacrifice one thing over the other. That’s you extending my idea to your interpretation. I’m saying: sometimes we hesitate because something costs money, but not doing the investment itself might bring us a bigger “punishment” in the long-term.
PS: My post wasn’t for the OP btw. My suggestion to OP was given before that It was just a follow-up of a comment I quoted.
My company just bought me Lifetime WK last week as a language study benefit even though the company has no connection to Japan whatsoever
Actually I’m so happy about it, I just had to share
I am currently questioning if it’s more worth to me buying lifetime on sale or yearly for two years, as for the first one I would pay 30 extra dollars (not counting inflation and 90 dollars being more cheap next year than today) just to be able to ressuscitate items afterwards, I don’t feel like that would be more productive than one or even more japanese books.
if you plan to do anything on wk after more than a year spent here, it might be worth it.
i estimate my time to 60 to take that long, and then it would be nice to burn it all, too. they might even add more stuff later, so i can see myself spending 2 years or more on wanikani.
I wouldn’t think of the extra 30 dollars you save (because that’s only 15% of $200, so not worth being the main factor of your decision). I would instead think if spending $200 (vs $90) is possible for you right now. If we look at the number of people that went for yearly and ended up wasting their subscription, they’re clearly the majority. By going safe and choosing lifetime, you’d guarantee access to WK no matter what happens… and we all know that we can’t predict how the future is going to be like.
In my opinion, you should go for lifetime if you can. I spent the 1st year reaching level 60, and I predict that I’ll spend my 2nd year burning all items (currently 62% burned, 1y5m of using WK). Guess what: I’m the dude that did it super fast (I only know 2 people that did it as fast). So even if you keep up with WK, it might easily take you more than 2 years to level 60/burn a big part of the items.
I’d say go for it and try. At least you’ll have learned something if you stop. Also, my way to prevent stopping is to be accountable to this community, ideally I want everyone to make sure I stay focused. That way I don’t wont to let myself and the community down.
Yeah i did not factor in the statistical risk to consider the gain from each option. The 100% from lifetime vs the less than 10% of yearly makes lifetime obviously more worth it. Can’t wait for christmas
At first I was considering the expected date for all burned in WK stats, march 2020, or 1 year 4 months from today, but I shouldn’t consider a deterministic solution, it’s like you said @jprspereira I can’t predict the future.
Even if you’re available 100% of days to do the work on WK as usual, getting an enlightment item wrong puts it in Guru 2 which adds minimum an extra 5 months and half to the burn review (2 weeks + 1 month + 4 months). And trust me, getting those items wrong is pretty common So yeah, I wouldn’t trust that date
