How WaniKani teaches you stuff about Japan while on vocab lessons

Vocab: 雑煮 (New Year’s Dish)
“A random boil isn’t all that random. It’s specifically the new year’s dish or mochi soup, eaten on new years.”
Me:- Oh, okay. cool.
“Old people and children tend to die every year from this (choking on the mochi), so be careful if you eat it!”

I remember in my high school Japanese class, we were watching the movie Tampopo and there’s this one part about mochi. This guy is eating mochi and ends up choking on it, so they bring over a vacuum to get it out!

Oh! I found the clip!

It’s a really great movie!

That clip was amazing.

You should just watch the movie. Seriously. It’s a really good laugh. :3
