How Long is the Intermediate Plateau?

You mean a japanese text analysis tool?
I posted about a couple of such tools here.
Seems a nice way to tackle any text or at least see how far from anyones level it is before blindly diving into.

It’s forever /thread

Twice as long as half its length.

I know how you feel! I conquered what I feel like is the intermediate plateau for speaking and listening in Hebrew about ten years back, and I’m currently waiting for the same thing to happen in Japanese, where I can express myself in day-to-day conversation in non-halting speech and not be overwhelmed by the speed of other speakers, but its so slowwwwwww making progress!

For literacy, I kind of agree with other folks talking about it being potentially infinite. I’m a native speaker, and I still remember every literacy plateau I hit on the way to being a full-on adult, from being good at enough at reading for chapter books as a 3rd grader to in college feeling confident enough in my technical vocab to tackle academic research publications, or at the end of college, solid enough in my historical vocab to handle 19th century literature (I’m squarely looking at you, Hawthorne). I even remember wanting to read the news when I was younger and feeling like I was old enough to understand a Time magazine or a USA Today but not old enough to get the writing in a WSJ or NYT article.

To have adult literacy:
just think back to every word and vocabulary item you had to learn/memorize in your 12-20 years of school in addition to the words you already knew as a native speaker… and then add all the specialized vocab you learned concerning every hobby or interest you ever had… And learn that much.
No problem…
