I did not take N5 and I am not planning to take it (except if it’s a requirement for N4 but I believe it’s not). I’m aiming for N4 directly because it’s more or less the level reached when you finish a book beginner series (Genki, MnN, JPZ…).
N5 does not seem to mean much (maybe I’m mistaken), that’s why I want to skip it.
Edit: just to clarify, I don’t even have the N5 level at this time of writing (WK level 5 and at the middle of JPZ book 1).
Ooow …
I have no clue either – if it should go from N5 (before N4) etc.etc…
I am still “playing” with WK --for the time being, though have browse through the information for JLPT.
For sure – you will be ready by then
Yep, there’s no specific requirements to take any of the JLPT levels – you can hop straight in at N1 if you want. I started with the old JLPT 2 and then N1, for instance. I think that’s quite common – the tests aren’t really useful for practical purposes like getting jobs in Japan until you get up to that level, so the lower levels are more for personal satisfaction and measuring your progress. So it’s up to you how much that motivates you and at what point (if at all) you want to take a formal test.
That’s exactly it. It’s a way for me to say ‘I reached a milestone’, which is when I’ll start the intermediate step (I’m planning Tobira + TV shows + video games).
