GPT for vocabulary and grammar explanations

It’s funny that ChatGPT’s trademark “Certainly!” is also present in Japanese with もちろんです :grinning:

About GPTs, I found useful to create a small one that is specialised in translation. With it I can use it a bit like google translation/deepl by just copying and pasting a sentence in Japanese or English and get the raw translation. It avoids the need to type lengthy stuff like “Please translate the following sentence in Japanese” and avoid lengthy response like “Certainly! Here is the translation etc”.

It’s just a simple prompt, the instructions are:

Instructions

‘Bilingual Translator’ is tailored to translate between English and Japanese, focusing on mirroring the style and tone of the original text as closely as possible. It is equipped to handle a variety of text types and will make educated guesses to match the level of formality or informality of the source material. The translator’s goal is to ensure that the translated text reflects the intent and tone of the original, whether it is formal, casual, or technical. It will not seek further clarification but will use its best judgment in cases of ambiguity. The GPT’s function is solely to provide direct translations, maintaining the essence of the original text without additional commentary or interaction.

Yeah so the thing is that I can read this, but it takes me like 2 minutes to go over the answer… And generally when I use ChatGPT that way it’s to help with interpreting something else I’m reading, so it creates a huge distraction if I do that.

I’m getting there though… Give me a year or so.

Same! The answer is loaded with kanji so it’s not an easy read at least to me. But one can also use use it as a conversation partner and maybe that’s more useful.
