Sorry for such a late response. I wasn’t on the forums over the weekend as much as I usually am.
Things are going slowly for me right now because I was out of town over the weekend but I plan to get back to it after work today (or maybe even on my lunch break if I have time. I have my Genki book with me.)
I’d like to try and finish lesson 6 today if I can but I haven’t checked how long it is so I’m not sure if that’s feasible or not. At the very least, I’ll be doing part of lesson 6 today.
I’m actually not really interested in doing the group/partner exercises, to be honest. At least not anytime in the near future. I mostly just wanted to know if there was anyone around where I am in the book for discussion purposes. So after we finish a lesson, we can talk about it, ask questions, etc. Eventually I might want to join you guys in doing the exercises, though.

@Ryouki there will be discussion groups for lessons I unfortunately can’t say that people will be in the lesson group u are but the channels will be there if you guys want to use it
My intention has always been to just use the forum for questions/discussions. But if everyone would prefer to use your channels, that’s understandable and I could get on board with that. The only problem is, our schedules would have to mesh and that seems unlikely.
very true I’m still new to Discord but I think it stays active even if i’m not on, but I’ll have to have a look either way its an option but using the forum is just as good what ever works right
I wasn’t just talking about our schedules matching yours. I was talking about everyone’s schedules matching each other’s to get on at the same time to talk. Many of us have work, school, kids, etc so finding a time that works for everyone that wants to be involved will be difficult, if it’s even possible.

Questions can be answered in a more organised manner and it should be a faster discussion overall. Also if you tag me I will get a notification on my phone.
That’s my point. I’m saying I think it makes more sense to use the forum for questions and general discussion and save the voice channels for partner/group exercises.
If people disagree that’s perfectly fine and I won’t be offended or anything. I’m all for what’s best for the group overall. I just think it will be difficult to get everyone together regularly on Discord or whatever.
My statement was in regards to discord. We can have a channel that won’t be derailed and focuses just on chapter 1 or whatever. Also, if I’m tagged on there I can receive a notification unlike in the forums.
I’m not sure how easy it will be to have everyone on at the same time, but I guess the same can be said of the forums. Except I can’t get an offline notification on the forums. 
If we can have a few on then I think that’d be adequate. And then people who are behind can go back and read messages and post new ones.

Oh, I don’t know anything about Discord. I thought it was voice only?
That’s the thing, people don’t NEED to be on at the same time to have a useful discussion on the forums. If you have a question about a grammar point that you don’t quite understand, you post your question and then the first person available to answer, can.
But, it sounds like the same can be accomplished in Discord. I didn’t realize that, sorry. I’ll be honest, though, I’m not fond of the idea of adding yet another tool to my already endless list of tools that I use for Japanese lol. But again, I’m not the only one here so whatever everyone decides is fine.

I’ve never used the voice. I just use the chat portion.
Hi, I joined Discord as starlightcat4, and whenever I sign in it says “You do not have permission to view the message history of #genki-notes.” Is that normal? I sent a message the other day, and I can’t even see that one.
ya this was sort of the idea I had to use it like this where people can leave questions and discussion points to be responded to when u have a second

I’m sorry about this another member sent me a message as well I will fix it after work tonight i’m also quite new to discord, but i will sort it out
