Yeah we’re going to have synchronization points every week (for instance week 1 ends just before we enter the chaos shrine) and basically you have the week to go through the allotted section at your leisure with everybody else playing along.
Some will necessarily fall behind or play ahead, but hopefully there’ll be enough people sticking to the club pace to make this a collective experience.
As for starting up I’m not sure. I think I’ll host a “week 0” thread just before the real start of the club to go through some of week 1’s content and warm up. What beginners often do when they struggle is copy the line to the wanikani thread here and attempt a translation, and then others can weigh in/correct/etc. Don’t hesitate to ask a lot of questions on these forums, that’s what these clubs are for.
See this thread for instance to get an idea of how the discussion could go in a similar club:
Since you’re WaniKani level 4 you may be a complete beginner, in which case it will certainly be challenging. In this case it may be valuable to play the game in English (or watch a video on youtube) to understand what’s happening and then you can use that knowledge to help with the Japanese. Basically if you already know roughly what the various characters are talking about, it becomes easier to approach the Japanese and it can be more rewarding. I did this a lot when I started playing games in Japanese.
For instance the first game I played fully in Japanese was Final Fantasy VIII and I had an English Youtube longplay on the side to help me when I was completely lost (which was very often). Also in this case if you’re playing the Pixel Remaster, you can technically change the language at any point if you want to check how something is rendered in English. Although unfortunately you have to do that from the main menu, so you need to save, quit, change the language and reload, so maybe a youtube video will be easier…
