Extended Mag: Getting into Reading Manga Magazines! šŸ—ž

I got into manga magazines via Harta, which I’ve been reading for… looks like 2+ years posting updates on the extensive reading thread, and now I’m fully caught up with every currently running series in the magazine.
It’s definitely one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done with the language and a really fun undertaking! So good luck, and I hope you find it just as great an experience!

I’ve been ostensibly also following spin-off magazine 青é؎士 and another Kadokawa magazine, Monthly Comic Beam, and I’ve tried one issue of other magazines here and there and every so often get the urge to try a few more, but the time commitment can be rough! I’m even a little behind on Harta right now, and lots behind on those other two…

I would absolutely recommend anyone interested in manga to give manga magazines a shot sometime - there’s nothing quite like not knowing just what chapter or one-shot is around the corner, even if you don’t end up sticking with the magazine. And I would second the recommendation to go digital as well. I actually initially tried subscribing to Harta physically with Kinokuniya, but it’s distributed as a book rather than a magazine so no dice (and I went with a non-manga magazine instead…) but I think it was a blessing in disguise in retrospect since the magazine is very easily available on Bookwalker and since the charm of a format is how much is packaged into one volume the space concerns would get… rough otherwise.
