Ok, that should be this one. I’ll try it specifically. Do you see any existing synonyms listed there on your side?
Cheers,
André

I believe I understand the issue here. About a year ago, I added synonyms without paying attention to capital letters lol. It seems that if a synonym identical/similar to the one it’s trying to create already exists, an error message is triggered. Once I deleted my “Groß” synonym, it worked and was replaced with “groß.” However, this also means that all identical synonyms will cause the same error message. When I tried uploading again, I encountered the next error:
-data-raw "{""study_material"":{""meaning_synonyms"":^[""berg"",""Berg"",""Mine"",""Wald"",""H^ügel"",""Zeche"",""Forst"",""Wette""^]}}"
Similarly my “berg” got replaced with “Berg” after deletion.
Is there any way to ignore the duplicate synonym error message, or do I have to upload, check and replace all my existing synonyms? :<
I’ll have a look into the code again. If it’s just case that should be easy to fix.
Cheers,
André
The app should now work with synonyms that just differ by case. Could you try again?
I reproduced the case in my account and the version now on the web site does not show the error. I also updated to the latest version of the Wadoku dictionary with some better translations. Hope that does not break anything. “It works for me.”

André
Tried again and it worked! Thanks for the fast fix and Happy new Year

Happy new year to you, too!
Mega, danke dir! Manchmal hab ich mich gefragt, ob das jetzt wieder ein obskures englisches Wort ist, welches ich nicht kenne oder Popkultur, die mir nix sagt ich probiers gleich mal aus, mal schauen, ob ich mir die Kanji dann besser merken kann.
Vielen Dank
Hallo Leute!
I’ve just discovered this thread and while I love this project, I personally struggle mostly with mnemonics and explanations. So I thought about how it could be fixed and suggested a bigger project that could actually make use of this (if you’re okay with it) and expand it onto explanations and mnemonics as well.
Here’s the thread with further details:

Even as someone speaking English for 90% of the work day, I had my share of Wanikani terms to look up. The higher the level, the more so.
The idea of app/client-side translation with an “AI starter” is certainly not unrealistic if you drop the entire set of Wanikani vocab, protagonists (Ken, Kouichi, …), stories etc into one ChatGPT context. Such a translation can be likely “post polished” but not sure how well ChatGPT can handle all the puns. But you can’t know until you try …
A challenge might be Tofugu’s ownership of the original content. So maybe a short demo run and draft license text acknowledging Tofugu’s ownership and then direclty asking via mail would be a good idea.
Feel free to use anything from here. Not sure how helpful it is, though. I am neither a big web nor a big Android developer.
Cheers,
André
Thank you for the feedback and suggestions.
For now, I’ll be waiting for some more feedback, but technically speaking the puns could be translated, the issue is the pronunciation changing with the translation and no longer fitting the reading. So entirely new mnemonics might be necessary, but even that can be done „in the same style“ using AI. The real question is if it’s something the owners and the community are fine with or not.
At the end of the day, it could bring more users and therefore more money, so there’s a lot of potential for positive impact. But not all companies always act reasonably from my experience, so
