Once you get to about level 10, it’s a good idea to start your own Anki deck of non-WaniKani words that you’ve encountered organically. That’s what I’ve been doing. I only add words to Anki that contain kanji that I’m at least at Guru with. I also don’t add any new Anki words until/unless I’m totally current on WaniKani.
So if I’m working on something where I bump into a lot of those words—words that I want to add to my Anki decks that I’m ready for—I’ll clear out my WaniKani queues as soon as I can. I also do reviews hourly on days where I don’t have much else to do.
On busy days, I just try to clear it out when I wake up and before bed. I’ll also let new lessons sit a little longer on busy days, especially after I level up. As others have said above, I’ve found that being ready for that first four-hours-later review is crucial.
100 cards at Apprentice will be a pretty good benchmark for your WaniKani journey throughout. My equilibrium seems to be about 100 Apprentice and 500 each of the next two levels (it sounds like more than it is).
EDIT: Getting into the groove is like finger positions on a musical instrument. Keep practicing and your brain will unconsciously figure out what feels right.
I do them between 6-8 AM every morning (usually get a big dump at 6 AM), then randomly from then until noon, where I will then do all that’s available, then randomly between noon and 6 PM. 6 PM I knock them out. From then until 10 PM, I randomly hit it. I always make sure I have zero reviews left when I go to bed. Some will still pop up after 10 but I just count that as done as I don’t have the brain power at that point to do more than one or 2.
I try to them in small batches (use the wrap-up buttom) of 30 items, otherwise my accuracy fall. By the time you level 10 or 20, you will start to have so many reviews that I suggest to do reviews as soon as you can so that your don’t have hundreds of items in your queue.
I do mine in the morning and at night. However, I’m starting to run into situations where my reviews all dump on the same day and then some days I have almost no reviews so I might restructure somehow soon.
I do three review sessions a day: morning, noon, and night. If I have lessons, I’ll do 5 or 10 during the morning session and another 5 or 10 during the noon session.
The times aren’t fixed so I’m flexible with the schedule.
I do two reviews sessions a day, one when I wake up and one before going to bed. Sometimes it can get really tiresome when there’s like 100 reviews to do every session but for me, at least, consistency is key. I also do a maximum of 18 lessons each morning/evening, so the reviews always keep on coming.
I pop in whenever I can during the day. I do whatever there is in the morning between 7-8am, do them sporadically when I have time at work between classes, do whatever I need at lunchtime around 1pm-ish, usually I’ll have a few to do on the train home at 4pm. On weekdays, my last reviews are usually done at 11pm, and then rinse and repeat.
I try to stay on top of it, because 100+ reviews aren’t my faves, and whilst they do happen occasionally I try to ensure they don’t.
I just do them when ever i have time, I usually average 350+ reviews a day …
I heard of a decent schedule that someone made where you check it 3 times a day. Around the morning, after noon, and evening. At the end of the day it depends on your schedule and how much time you can dedicate to WaniKani.
Once in the morning, and do some throughout the day as my time permits. Another one as soon as I arrive home. Then a final one that gets my reviews down to zero before I turn in for the night.
Weekends are come as they go since I sometimes most of the time I sleep in…
I think as long as you establish a pattern to your reviews, as others have suggested, you are setting yourself up for success. Same goes for trying to zero your reviews before the following day. The only exception to this is if you are really tired and you probably will get 12 out of 10 wrong haha, those are better slept on and tackled fresh the next day.
All the best on your WK journey!
keep chugging along and level 60 will be there before you know it!
