Different Radical Names

Why do you use different names for the radicals than found in other text?
eg, drop instead of dot stroke
construction instead of work
slide instead of bending stroke
barb instead of stroke with hook

The short of it is, it is much easier to create mnemonic based on something you can picture easily and connect other concepts to.

Thanks , yes it make a lot of sense for someone like me who has struggled with Kanji for years.
Only thing is I have to learn a whole lot of new names to get past first base.

It makes it easier to learn for some people. If you don’t like it, you can click on the individual radicals and add your own synonyms

I will often add extra names for radicals. As long as I can still work my way to the kanji, it really doesn’t matter if you call it drop or dash.

The writers of “any other text” aren’t writing mnemonics for this website.
