Why? What would someone say instead? The か might be abrupt but 大丈夫か strikes me as a special case for a question that mught warrant abruptness fairly often.

大丈夫？ with a rising intonation would be more common

it’s one of those things where the way they speak in anime is different from real life.
It’s kind of like saying, “What ails you?” I’m sure people somewhere actually say this, but it sounds like something from a movie.
