I finished Duolingo today with a score of 100. It took me roughly 400 hours. This is like getting to wanikani level 50.
Duolingo will roll out a new Japanese update next month that will bring the score up to 130. Which will be similar to wanikani level 60.
i think, although i don’t know, that the update is just to give the recently added sections scores?
The current/old one goes up to Section 6. which is like CEFR B1.
The new update gives Section 7 and 8 which is duolingo score 100-130. Or B2 CEFR equivalent.
right. i finished 7 and 8 (uhhhh by getting bored and testing out) and my score is also still 100
The new update is still in A/B testing and is not officially out yet. So majority of duolingo users will not get this update. I do like the new stories in the new update. There’s still alot of bugs like the one you mentioned where the score stays at 100. We are like guinea pigs to test out the new update.
wow, you finish 7 and 8 already. that usually takes another 150 hours and you completed in a short amount of time.
i don’t usually find i learn much from duolingo, so i tend to take their “jump ahead” tests ahahaha
150 hours? How about 150 years…ooops, i guess that mean i WON’T be finishing it
Yeah, i got the new Sections 7 and 8 as well!
But can you indeed watch a TV show in Japanese???
Yes, I can watch simple slice of life tv show but I don’t think it’s duolingo. It’s a combination of duolingo, wanikani, migaku, and over 100 hours of watching netflix with japanese subtitles.
I recently watched these japanese drama and was able to understand most of it with japanese subtitles:
Beach boys
Long Vacation
からかい上手の高木さん
ライオンの隠れ家
Beautiful Life
First Love
is this true?
Very jealous. Awesome stuff
Thats great! Now that you’ve finished it, would you recommend it, or is it better to spend that time on something else?
Yes I do recommend it.
I would recommend wanikani over Duolingo. Or do both if you have the time. I was doing about 30 minutes wanikani and 30 minutes Duolingo everyday.
I see, thanks!
@Alonzo-xyz the duolingo update today gave scores again. My friend and I was able to see scores of 101. Make sure to update the app in the appstore and then try doing a few lessons in section 7. Here is a screenshot of score 101 if you complete section 7 unit 10.
neat… I just noticed my score had changed.
looks like it bumped me up to 130 automatically
I reached level 102 in duolingo and reached level 22 in wanikani today.
In Duolingo, it looks like they have removed the level system again. Now I’m back to level 99.
I guess their new section 7/8 are still in beta testing and not yet generally available to the public.
