Book/Manga Thread (What are you reading?)

Wow, you’re reading a math textbook in Japanese? That’s a super awesome and great idea!
Would you mind sending me a snapshot of the first page or so? (privately) I’d be really interested in having a look at it.

Actually, the author has made it available for free (if you don’t mind PDFs)
At least you can have a look

I’m currently reading I hunt killers by Barry Lyga, as well as some short folk tales on wasabi-jpn.

I did a thing.

I too did a thing.

Nichijou on netflix doesn’t have JP subs and it jumps around a bit too much for me to follow easily. Luckily my refresher course came in!

OMG YESSSS

i couldn’t figure out how to get jp manga shipped to the states but i did recently learn how to trick amazon.jp into letting me buy ebooks so i’m reading the same, without anything physical to show for it. (i skipped ahead to volume 6 tho, where i understand the anime material ends.)

i couldn’t even find jp subs for nichijou on kitsunekko, which usually has everything!

incidentally, do i have any 宝石の国 manga pals out there?

I tend to get my hardcopy manga from cdjapan.co.jp nowadays. One thing I like about them is that they offer SAL printed matter as a shipping option, which is similarly priced to SAL small packet, but extends up to 5kg so long as you’re getting books/magazines only.

I just ordered those two volumes of Urara Meirochou from amazon.co.jp. It was pretty simple and it was here in four days. I borrowed Nichijou from the internet years ago and watch it every now and again. :+1:

god dammit borx

no u

Been reading ふらいんぐうぃっち the past few weeks. Almost at the end of volume 2, very good beginner manga to practice jp.

No, he talks. Was trying to respond and the power went out so maybe my page choice was poor, but I was in the dark. Literally.

English: just finished reading War and Peace (which sounds a lot more pretentious then it actually is… I swear that asides from the length (and keeping track of who is who) it’s actually a fairly easy read!)

Japanese: first volume of Major. I’m super into baseball, so really enjoying it

Up next: aiming to read something in French (I’m fluently bilingual) thinking of reading some Zola

As far as manga goes I’ve only been studying Japanese for 6 weeks. But I’ve looked at the pictures in よつばと vol. 1, and recognized a few words. Other than that, I’m reading a book of Japanese folk lore (in English).

Hmm… obviously not reading it yet, but, very excited about this announcement.

Yotsubato 14!!

edit: apparently this was announced some time ago, but it comes out in just one month!

i recieved my copy of やつばと vol. 1 from amazon.co.jp today, but it will take some more levels, till i realy can start reading it XD But I will look through the manga from time to time to see if I can understand some easy things

I’m reading three things at the moment:

  1. よつばと!vol 3 - with the great よつばと!reading group here at WK
  2. ドラえもん - just started one, but it’s a lot of text (and so small for my eyes!)
  3. After seeing it recommended here, I’ve just picked up 齋藤孝のイッキによめる! 名作選 (1年生). It looks really good!

Not that I should be doing any of this! The N5 exam is just 3 months away, I ought to be concentrating on that!

I’m currently reading 僕だけがいない街 (Erased) and 聲の形 (A Silent Voice) right now. Both of them are pretty simple for me to read and they’re pretty grounded in reality (if not a little melodramatic) so the vocabulary doesn’t get too crazy.

Admittedly, I’m guilty of using furigana as a bit of a crutch. Might try to read a seinen manga afterward to try to wean myself off them.
