Beginners, how else do you study apart from using WaniKani?

Beginner here. Very similar to you where my motivation is extremely high for WK reviews and lessons every day, but grammar less so.

What’s helped me with grammar is lessons with a teacher from Italki and speaking practice. We usually do 15 minutes of speaking practice and go through the lessons plus the exercises in the book for 45 minutes. Usually takes us a few one hour sessions to get through one Minna no Nihongo lesson. And then I do extra homework with her to write a few sentences down as sort of like a diary. What I do is I usually try to apply grammar points I just learned and then she’d correct it the next time we have a lesson. I try to do 2-3 lessons per week.

I’ve also complemented my one-on-one lessons with Bunpro through the Minna no Nihongo textbook path. If you don’t know about Bunpro yet, it’s similar to WK, where you learn grammar points and it helps you review the grammar you’ve already learned through SRS. They also have the Genki textbook path there so you can follow along the grammar points you’ve learned on Genki.

If you have time, you may also want to check out other people’s study logs, where I’ve gotten a lot of tips and tricks from as a beginner. Check out → Master List of Study Logs. It also perfectly presents what’s been said above:

You’ll see in the logs how much people change their strategies, habits, and sources and they keep trying new things that they may or may not stick with. Not just beginners, same goes for advanced learners. Never ever thought my plan was bullet proof hence why I made my study log in the first place - to record all the things I tried, and see where I can improve on, etc.
