I started using a 12 key flick keyboard on my android phone experimentally yesterday. I can see how one would get very fast with this by being able to swipe a kana at a time, particularly without any dakuten. However, it totally beats me how typing compounds could ever be competitive compared to a romaji input conversion method. E.g., just typing ぎょう needs five actions: swiping き, putting the dakuten on it to make it ぎ, swiping よ, converting it to a small ょ, and finally swiping う. That’s quite inconvenient, particularly since (admittedly from typing romaji) I tend to think of ぎょう as a single syllable rather than a series of three individual kana.
Is there a shortcut I’m missing?
