Out of curiosity, is “two months ago” an acceptable translation of 先々月？

If I’m not mistaken, on May 1st, 先々月 would be the month March, not March 1st.

So the person could be referring to March 31st, which would not be two months ago

I don’t know where else to put it, but can 況 沢 maybe be added to similar to each other? I keep confusing them a lot lately. :smiley:

I guess, but I don’t think I have ever said “the month before last” when referring to something like that (it just comes off as awkward). In the example that you gave, I would either use “In March” or “two months ago”.

Maybe that’s just an English though, I have seen it sometimes in my own native tongue. Maybe that’s just how Japanese people communicate this

@Pep95 Pep95 is right that 先々月 technically refers to the whole month, so “the month before last” is a better literal translation, but I think both in English and Japanese “two months ago” / 二ヶ月前 would be used more often to mean more or less the same thing. “Two months ago” is actually on the allow list for 先々月 by the way :slight_smile:

Idk, maybe it’s a regional thing, but I definitely use the phrases “the month before last”, “the week before last”, and “the day before yesterday” pretty regularly. Grew up in Texas, for reference.
