In the reading prompt for 北海道 I get the error “Oops, we want the reading, not the meaning.” when I enter ほっかいど

How do I delete a thread?
I was being dumb and forgot the う and couldn’t figure it out for 15 minutes until 2 seconds after I made this thread. oops, my bad.

I’d argue that ほっかいど isn’t and cannot be the meaning of ほっかいどう, so the shake warning is still wrong. It should perhaps be closer to “Oops, that’s very close but not exactly what we wanted, check your answer again”

Aye, but “Hokkaido” is the meaning, and that’s what’s triggering the “oops! we want the reading” shake.

The meaning and reading are the same, so just spell the meaning like the reading and let typo protection allow it.

Are you saying that WK transliterates the hiragana ほっかいど into “Hokkaido” and then base their shake response warning on that?

Yah. The function of the shake is to catch anyone who’s entering the meaning as the reading by accident, for any word. At least, I’m fairly sure it’s any word - having trouble coming up with the search terms to find the thread where they announced it. It just so happens in this instance that the expected answer for the meaning is fairly close to the reading (though “Hokkaidou” is also accepted for the meaning).
I mean, more correctly, WaniKani transliterated the text “hokkaido” into the hiragana ほっかいど already. It’s just now considering the actual text entered rather than what it’s displaying.
Edit: Aaaand after completing that post, my brain coughed up a search suggestion - use the terms I was already using, but confine the results to the Announcements section only. Et voila.
