These bars in profile barely visible in dark mode.
Lighting mode is really cool option, however would be nice to combine it with regular mode. Like add a button per “card” (? I dunno how to call it, kanji/radical/vocabulary entry in the review), which would disable lighting mode for this one card, so you’re able to check meaning/reading of this particular card before going to the next.
You are right on this. I made it that way because I did not want to go white nor did I want a deep black. I will come up with a different color for the track to create a contrast.
In meaning it uses white colour, which in dark mode works as flashbang, xd
Would it be possible to change it to less bright colour?
2nd. When I was doing reviews, it automatically switched my keyboard layout to English/japanese depending on type of question, does it do it only in reviews? I did some lessons and extra study, it didn’t switch it.
(And also it all worked perfectly now, in terms of syncing)
Actually, I love that you are finding out these issues because it only helps to make the app better. Especially since you just found the app today and already running into issues. I would not want to have an app out there with issues on first install – definitely not a good experience.
I guess I have never thought of it as a problem (I only use dark mode on my device). Now that you mentioned it I might try toning it down a bit.
That shouldn’t be the case, the behaviour should be the same across all three. Also, that behaviour is controlled in settings as by default it does not auto switch input.
An update (1.18.760) fixing the profile crash and onboarding data sync skipping has been sent in for review and should be available for download shortly.
Thank you @MagnarIUK
Here a video of the app where for some reason reviews and lessons didn’t work anymore.. Video
I tried to reinstall the app and to clean the cache but nothing changed🥲
UPDATE
After a lot of cache clean from the app and also from the phone settings, it finally works again (occasionally it says “rate limit exceeded”).
Idk what happened, the only thing I did that I can remember was to change the number of the lessons🤷🏻♂️
I did some work in settings to utilise available screen real estate on big devices. This allows the screen to show both menu and content at the same time. See screenshots below for details:
Yay, that looks nice.
I’ll probably install it on my PC as well then, haha
Btw, about UI, I feel that main screen is quite cluttered… To get to new unlocks you need to scroll down a bit. Overall it feels like vertical space is overused and some parts are duplicates.
Wouldn’t it be better to move all status stuff (like kanji/level progress and such) fully to profile and also to split it into tabs.
On the main screen you make two tabs: first one contains everything for study - lessons, reviews, recent mistakes, extra study. And second - review forecast.
And pretty much everything else could be moved to profile, also in two tabs:
I like your suggestion but do not think moving everything else to profile is a good idea. By the way what did you mean by “some parts are duplicates”?
Bear in mind there is a reason it’s called a “Dashboard”.
I will run with your idea (experimentally) and see how much better it is.
I understand that, but it’s not really useful if you need to scroll down a kilometer to find what you looking for (Wanikani itself has the same problem). It’s really convenient on big screen, but when it’s the phone screen it’s more convenient just to navigate in menu to what you want to see and not scroll down (in my personal opinion, I understand if you see different direction for the app)
Oh I see. They seem like dupes but slightly different in the sense that the one on the dashboard can be customised to a different style.
I understand. I don’t want deviate too much from the website since that’s the whole idea behind this app. However, I will think of how to best handle this.
It’s not a priority for me to change the dashboard anytime soon but will keep it in mind.
This app is awesome! I switched from smouldering durtles because they did not have the feature of extra study to practice burned items. I am liking it so far, but I wonder if there is a feature yet to view stroke order like in smouldering durtles?
Hey thanks! I appreciate your comment.
About the stroke order, I have already laid down the groundwork for that feature, in fact, the only thing missing is showing it in subject info. Now that part is what I am still working out where to place it. The original idea I have for it is when you the click the subject character icon it should show a popup with the stroke order. For larger devices with screen real estate, it will be present without having to click.
To answer your question, this feature will come in a later update (in not too distant future.)
