Hey guys,
I really struggle with the word 省く(はぶく), “to omit”. While the Kanji itself means “conserve”, I can’t really draw a line between them.
The mnemonic by WK doesn’t really hit me though.
Any tips on how to remember it?
Thank you!

I think of the book of Habbakuk, from the Bible. It’s a pretty small one, so it often gets omitted from lists of well-known books.
Yeah I was reading your comment before in the other post but I have no Idea what it is. So it doesnt help either >_<
But thanks anyways
I’ve been omitted.
Hab u kuit trying to remember it? Oh well, omit it from your reviews.
Perhaps this -
If you want to conserve the original meaning of 省く’s kanji you’ll have はぶ to omit the hiragana at it’s end.
creative xD
I try to omit it when I see it >_<
I had the same issue but fortunately it’s a relatively common word so I can use passive exposure to practice it.
When the primary kanji meaning is a poor match like this, WaniKani’s approach is almost counter-productive. You’re better off learning the vocab directly without paying too much attention to the individual kanji. Try remembering what はぶく means and the spelling should follow.
Thats also very nice
See my problem with this one is not that I can’t remember the reading or, if I take a second, the mnemonic and the meaning. It’s that I automatically think “to conserve!” and write that in the answer block without further thought.
And the only solution was to fail it enough that my first reaction to seeing it is WAIT! Tricky one, think about it.
To me, none of the WK vocabs associated with 省 seem to have anything to do with “conserve”, so I decided to forget about ‘conserve’, and now remember ‘omit’ and ‘ministry’ as possible meanings. I also struggled with this kanji because in my mind, “conserve” implies “keep”, which is the opposite of “omit”.
There’s this one but it’s not on WK 省エネルギー - Wikipedia
