AD as in Anno Domini

That’s true. I have personally never been anywhere close to Israel or the Middle East geographically, nor do I know any of the languages to read any historical or scientific information from them, so I never really think about it. Any Jewish or Islamic followers I knew in the US used BCE/CE, probably because it’s more convenient than having to explain oneself.

Hilariously, I think the biggest culture shock I’ve given my coworkers is knowing the Japanese calendars eras (I can name them from Tenmei to Heisei with comfortable navigation from Meiji to Heisei). As fascinating as it is for the sake of knowing the history, I definitely also thank Christianity and Rome for deciding such a simplest and arbitrary method of year-keeping (though I would prefer having eras a bit shorter, such as the eras of music, for example).
