A Pineapple Learns a Language (And Talks About Roller Coasters)

I’m just gonna smile and gesture wildly towards forums.learnnatively.com

(Also I’ve used WK for all of 2 hours ever and I’m here pretty regularly so I don’t think they’re checking tickets at the door )

Wow.. uhh… It’s only been two weeks… Right?
I actually dont mind how long it’s been, I’ve been extremely busy and between studying japanese and telling people how the studying is going, I’d rather the latter fall off the boat first.

Anyway, here’s what I’m doing now: I’m just about halfway through the JLaB beginner listening deck and I’ve just started reading on LingQ, both recourses that I’m surprised more people don’t talk about, but then again maybe I’m bad at looking.

Today’s drop-down is just a bunch of yap about me figuring out what everyone else already knows, other than that thanks for tuning in! see y’all in ““two” weeks”"

yap

As this journey keeps going, I continue to surprise myself with things I’m able to understand without much effort, despite how few and far between those events may be. The realization of “huh, I wasn’t able to do that 1/2/x weeks ago” might never get old.

I’ve found the processes of learning a language to be comparable to the dopamine rush of a clicker game. It’s so addicting that I, someone who’s played video games every day for most of my life, have put off games to get Anki reps done on most evenings.

The newest thing I’ve added to my study is reading. Right now I use lingQ to read because it has every feature I would want as a beginner and it feels unfair to just… beable to read another language. Even though it’s extremely simple japanese, there is a small handful of words that I can read almost as easily as English and that is downright crack cocaine. Seriously, who needs a crippling addiction when you can understand “彼女は大学生です”

I can’t wait until I’m far enough into this where I can see people posting these same thoughts and think about how far I’ve come from this point, but for now I’m having a blast being at this point.

The first full circuit roller coasters to be taller than 200, 300, and 400 feet were all built at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio within the span of 15 years.
