A Help to when WaniKani mnemonics doesn't make sense

First of all, I am not posting this to anyhow diminish WK value. Since I’ve started using it in 2020, it’s been a huge tool for my japanese studies and I plan to use it until I reach the level 60 (maybe more), so I would like to make it crystal clear.

But… Let’s be honest… There are some mnemonics that doesn’t help much to remember a vocab, so I would like to share a web app I recently did that lists all Ulrike’s Kanji Mnemonics into a single page with a search input field

Why not to use directly on ulrike’s page? Well… the design isn’t very fluid as it limits the amount of kanjis to 100 per page, it is divided across 22 pages (as there are 2136 kanji in the joyo kanji count), it is somewhat slow and the search mechanism is horrible.

So I created a upgraded version (in my humble opinion). It has been really useful for me so far, and I hope it can be useful for you guys as well.

You can access it here ulrikes-mnemonics

Feedbacks welcome.

very helpful! I often come up with my own mnemonics related to things personal to me which tend to generally work better

I checked it out. I like the formatting where I can see immediately the readings, meanings, and mnemonics without going through different drop down signs lol

I must admit that the WK mnemonics aren’t the best, but I think they have improved, somewhat. I remember back then they used “Jourm” as mnemonic for 上 and it just wouldn’t stick in my head. Although right now, I can see some kanjis where I just make my own. But I’ll remember to reference this if I feel too lazy to come up with something.

Thanks for sharing this! This will be bookmarked on my browser

And well, I saw the title and I knew I had to click this immediately. Life in general already doesn’t make sense so why should WK mnemonics be, too?

Sure thing, creating our own mnemonics and bringing our own experience to the game helps a lot and I do that move too!

I’m glad it was helpful for you in anyway, surely having more alternatives gives us the option to cherry pick the best that works for us!
