Since I got the impression that you’re reading the light novels, I just want to say that I think you’ve added the manga version of volume 2 to bookmeter by accident( don’t mind me if it wasn’t by accident and you’re actually reading the manga or if I’m just mistaken in some other way)
I stopped tracking the 本好き home thread for the same reason. If you’re also referring to my post just above yours, I generally don’t post many spoilers, but I needed to say something in this case. If it’s any consolation, you’ll be ahead of me soon enough and then you’ll be completely in the clear as far as new spoiler comments go.
Rant about spoilers
Unfortunately there was one really big spoiler that I read that I still can’t get out of my mind, and that’s what prompted me to stop following the 本好き home thread and new threads. I literally can’t read the books without wondering about this spoiler now, which is quite annoying. It sounds like you get fixated on smaller plot point spoilers as well, but while I don’t like knowing those either I tend to forget them more easily. It’s really annoying, because same as you I really enjoy reading the book club conversations, and for series I don’t care about, reading the spoilers is interesting.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding but why did it feel like こんじき to you? Like reading your sentence I naturally read it as こんじき just because that’s pretty much always how I read 金色, but I know きんいろ is also a valid reaching and was under the impression there really isn’t a difference between the two.
When I was talking about this with a friend awhile back and it looked it up it looked like こんじき was the more common way of reading it by far too. Was your comment just saying you were also in the majority of people who read it that way but you didn’t remember learning it that way?
There haven’t been any discounts for ebooks on my wishlist for a while. 
@Ditto20 Ah, thank you so much! I got the first volume wrong too, but now I think I’ve fixed them. Also, I like the light novels covers so much better, so I’m extra happy. 
@seanblue I don’t know about your post, because my skimming instincts worked in this instance! So it might be okay but either way I am good.
A few further spoiler thoughts
Ugh, that sucks you’re having that happen. That’s how I am about spoilers too. The 本好き one would be a really big one if it were more defined, but even vague as it is it isn’t something I would have imagined at this point while reading, which is unfortunate. Now I spend a lot of time wondering if the things I’m reading are leading to the thing I vaguely know about. Vague spoilers like that bug me–I get that whoever is saying the vague thing is trying to be good, but it leads me in a direction when I previously had no idea where the book was going. Maybe in 本好き book 5 マイン ends up adrift at sea and finds herself on a new continent and gets the people there to make her books. Unlikely, but this sense of anything can happen is one I really enjoy, and getting these vague spoilers that deny a ton of other things even in their vagueness makes reading less fun for me. You’re right, though, I also still want to participate in book clubs and this thread… it’d be easier not to care, but there isn’t a switch to turn off. 
Ah, also, is yours one you’ll overcome at some point? As in, will you read past it and be free??
That was my impression at the time too, but people disagreed. Upon asking native speakers and looking on the Internet, I was told that it feels dated, and you would mostly use that reading for stuff like a Buddha statue or similar.
Now, trying to find some sources for that claim, I’ve been mostly finding people saying the two readings are equivalent, but at there’s one going the way I said: 「金色」は色々な読み方がありますね。「金色の光」の場合は「こんじき」と「きんいろ」とどちらの方が多いですか。（ふりがながなかったら） | HiNative
Also, an indirect sign comes from furigana frequency. Since 金色 is a common word, you would usually not put furigana on it except for exceptional readings, and こんじき is massively ahead, which means it’s NOT the common reading.
Maybe another example would help understand my point: the most common FURIGANA for 女性 is にょしょう, which, incidentally, is not how I would read it without such prompt.
The thing about furigana frequency makes sense actually. I wasn’t really thinking that by being the more common furigana reading its likely the less common reading. I wonder if japanese just naturally read it as こんじき then when its used in those certain contexts or if they really have the furigana because everyone would read it as きんいろ otherwise.
I wonder if it’s generational? As in, if you are 50+, both are equivalent to you, but otherwise こんじき feels dated?
Coincidentally we had the exact same discussion about 金色 during last week’s 狐笛のかなた Read Aloud, and we came to the same conclusion. So thanks for unknowingly confirming that

Welp, this morning I got an email telling me that vol. 10 had just released, so I went to check to see if vol. 1 was a freebie anywhere – it’s not, but ￥50 on Amazon is pretty darn close (and it actually did end up being free since I could pay the rest with points. My resolve is dwindling…

I will stay away from that one for the time being, I’m afraid but I noticed that the first volume is also on sale at Bookwalker (for 100 Yen), in case anybody is interested.
The mobile interface of BookLive does not let me check the price of stuff I already bought, but volumes 6-9 are 30% off. I assume the rest is at least discounted that much.
