10分で読める物語 二年生 Home Thread (Absolute Beginner Book Club)

Well, i believe I‘m not able to create wikis

Maybe that’s restricted to trust level regular  @JenK, would you be able to make this OP a wiki for us (if cybershark is okay with that)?

I‘m actually suprised, that my trust level is still not high enough Xd but okay.

I‘m fine with making my opening post a wiki, if some mod could do that. :man_shrugging:

It should be a wiki now :sparkles:

Thank you :+1:

Is it possible to do the same with the sub-threads? I used to be able to create wikis…

Hmm, we’ll take a look at the back-end and see what we can do for users turning their own posts into wikis!

Happy New Year all!

Does anyone have any objection to me moving this book out of the “currently reading” section in the ABBC homepage? It sounds like it’s been a trickier read than you’d hoped for.

Obviously it would be great if those of you who have soldiered on manage to get to the end, but if any new readers arrive on the ABBC site it feels like we shouldn’t be directing them here.

I don’t think it’s a tricky read. It’s just tricky to get people to stay around.

I was thinking of finishing off the current story on my own, then polling people on whether we want to continue. Maybe we could continue without the running translation and see if that helps stimulate discussion at all.

Or maybe now that we’re past December, @cybershark can come back and moderate the discussion again.

Well, about that … XD

So, who‘s still around?

  • Yeah, here I am
  • Nah, leave me alone
  • Maybe

The lack of kanji is “disturbing” lol

To want (to try) to eat taco (for the first time)? ~> タコを食べてみたい?

お母さんのスープを食べましたからほかのお母さんの料理を食べてみたくなりました。 cmiiw. Sorry, can’t resist myself. I hope I’m not necroing this mitakute / mitai topic, because I didn’t see if it’s been solved or not.

(To) want to read (for the first time). Or just like the fifth explanation from jisho above.

Yes, I think this is right. The way it was explained to me was use 〜てみる for trying something to see how it is (not for trying something to see if it is possible).

The book club is still alive!!!

More or less. Sadly I still don‘t find the time to moderate this. So if anybody want to take over, feel free to do so.

There is a new version of this book out. And it now exists as an ebook!

Here are some links:
Physical book: Amazon : CD Japan

Ebook:
ebook Japan : Book Walker - Book Walker requires the user to be in Japan to view/purchase this item (or use a VPN)

Some examples below of the cover, table of contents, and first couple of pages. As far as I can see the pages look the same. When we’ve seen new versions of other books in this series there have sometimes been the occasional small variation in the text.

There also seems to be an additional new story at the end compared to the original table of contents.

Original book proposal post if you want to compare to the old version.

Perhaps it’s time we finished it off, then. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve been polishing off some of the older (read: easier) books in my bookcase, so I’ll be reading this one soon. Perhaps we could make an independent reading thread? So read it without a schedule, just a big thread for asking questions? I imagine a lot of people still have this book lying around, so might as well, right?
