Here is a small and condensed breakdown of my efforts over this marathon:
| Source | Type | Time | Pages | Characters |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Magazine | 1h2m | 87-222 (135 pages) | ??? | |

| Total: 60 pages of novel, 135 pages of manga, 24754 characters, 6:09 hours. |
It was pretty difficult to factor the marathon into my schedule this season, considering I’m on holidays and I had a pretty active day sightseeing yesterday regardless:
but it's really rewarding to see my focus be concentrated for so long on specific things for so long, I still have people to look up to on this forum, but the trajectory feels clear to me right now ^^Thoughts about what I might want to learn/change:
- I do not have a name dictionary in Yomitan and sometimes names trip me up really much, whether it’s a novel or manga or anything
- I want to be better at reading physical things/without screen grabber, but my most common issue is not understanding the most important word in a sentence and then continuing as if I’ve read it anyway: Mokuro and Ttsu limit this issue, but I really wonder how much is it me reading, and how much is it just having a dictionary read for me
- Most of my Mokuro/Ttsu reading is on a laptop, which is heavy and not always practical: I need to find an equivalent of this on my pocket devices: I know mitrac mentioned using an S Pen to OCR some images on a tablet: that would be great, but the apps I found so far have been far from optimal

- I find some words really difficult to remember compared to the other ones, it took me like 20 times of seeing 慌てて to finally understand what it means: I don’t know what makes some words stick, and some be like 吹奏 where I see it over and over and over again and it just never comes to me xdd
I can’t make promises about the winter marathon yet, but I’ll most likely be stuck at home over Christmas break, would be nice to read a visual novel or something
I’m pre-emptively setting my sights on matching either @Redglare or @WeepingWeeb in the Winter one and let’s see if I manage to keep up with the lifeload!
My next goal in terms of language study in Japanese is going to be to finish 笑み男, I will probably continue doing it today ^^
HERE IS MY OMNISCIENT OCTOPUS AWARD STICKER (im very proud YEES) ![]()
i really wanted to get it for a while, so here it is xdd
Thank you for organizing the marathon @taiyousea and looking forward to reading with you in a few months again! C:
Good luck to everyone who still has some hours left and congratulations to everyone who finished their marathon!
