🌷 Spring Equinox 24-hour Readathon (Mar. 21)

Alvi’s Home Post :glowing_star:

Okay!
I’m going to do it…

I will be reading Frieren Vol. 2… My goal will be… 100 pages (about half probably, I think Vol 1 was around 180).

It’s a lot of reading for me and far more than I’ve done at once before, but if I dedicate the day to it, it should be possible!

Wowow, exciting! :raccoon: I’ll definitely try to join!

:cherry_blossom: Joining this one for sure. The spring one is always my favourite. I think it’s also the first one I originally joined? or maybe not. Either way, I think I’ll try novel reading this time, even if it means I won’t contribute as much.

I’ll be joining again! Last time I read nearly all 3 volumes if Magic Night Rayearth part I. This time I might go for the 3 volumes of part 2. I think that would be a pretty cool comparison. I could also save that for the summer readathon and read something else like my first children’s book.

I’m making these events the only time I allow myself to buy Cheese-its, it’s adding to the hype :fire:

oho, next readathon season around the corner :eyes: :sparkles: Not sure if I can participate that weekend due to work, but I’d love to!

I’ll be joining, though the spring equinox always seems to coincide with the March Madness basketball tournament… So unless someone tells me no, I’ll be starting us off early, on Wednesday Mar. 18, so I can manage both without distractions :face_with_steam_from_nose: Not really sure what my goals are yet, other than actually getting myself to start reading again. I barely did any reading, in any language, through February this year - the horror!!

NOOO you have to join!! It’s so fun to read together, who cares what the averages are :face_with_steam_from_nose: And we need every number we can squeeze out so we can destroy those totals in the Results tab :flexed_biceps: :books: :fire:

Hey not a problem, tag me for any questions :growing_heart: On your ā€œhome postā€ and any reply you make on the forum, the grey timestamp in the upper right corner of the post gives you a link to your post specifically. You can copy that link and then paste it in the participants list next to your name. I hope I’ve understood the question correctly

I’m so glad to see you back :face_holding_back_tears: :cherry_blossom:

YAYYY THE SPRING READATHON!!

I’ve had it marked on my calendar and have been looking forward to it >:))

I did want to join with everyone on Saturday, but then 3 separate plans came up  so it looks like I’ll be doing my reading on Sunday!

Thanks @taiyousea for hosting this wonderful event, yet again

Yay! Another Readathon! Thanks @taiyousea for organizing. I’ll be joining, but on the Friday. Haven’t yet decided on a goal or what I’m reading, but will do so closer to the day.

I hadn’t thought of that angle, but it’s early enough in the tournament that I can let it slide.

(Florida’s title-winning run last year did catch my attention, though, and it was also the time where I was starting to learn Japanese, so like the last three Gator games I ended up on tofugu’s Hiragana/Katakana pages doing tests and studying those because they kept winning when I did that and I still occasionally missed some).

I think I’m going to be boring and see how far I can get through more of the Yakumo book I read for the last readathon. Not sure if my reading day yet, but probably Friday..

..yes I know I will eventually run out of Sailor Moon scenes for my home posts..

Don’t worry! I have since committed! And once I figure out how to add my name and link the goal post, I’ll do that

I’ll update this closer to the readathon, once I’ve made the very difficult choice of what to read.. I’m thinking it’s going to be another yuri filled one though, I’ve got some LNs I’d like to read this time :yellow_heart:

Also thanks @taiyousea for explaining how the links work (hopefully it’s all sorted now) and for hosting this event once again, I’ve been looking forward to this since December and I’m psyched to read with everyone! :pink_heart:

Can’t wait for the readathon! I should be good to go on the 21st; on the off chance something comes up that day, I should be able to pretty easily swing my plans to the 22nd.

Speaking of plans, I’m going to wait to make my home post until we’re a bit closer in, but this year I think I’m going to do a repeat of my first readathon year (two years ago) and focus specifically on manga. This’ll definitely be the year I decimate my physical manga. :face_with_steam_from_nose: And this upcoming readathon I plan on focusing on finishing 仁ē£čŠ³ēƒˆä¼ | L27. The series is 13 volumes total (+1 bonus volume), and while I have confidence in my reading skills, reading 14 volumes of manga in a single day might be a bit tough. So the goal is to try to read through as many volumes as I can pre-readathon; I’ve already read through the first three, and I’m hoping to get to readathon day with only 4-5 left on my plate.

HECK YEAH, I’m looking forward to this, it will be great :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I don’t really know yet what I will be reading. I expect an order with a bunch of One Piece and Frieren volumes to arrive within the next week, so those might be on my itinerary for the day. Though I might also take the day as an opportunity to dive into some books that have been sitting on my shelves for a while untouched.. Hm we’ll see

It’s great to see everyone’s so enthusiastic about this event!

May I ask for some advice?
I think it was half a year ago when I joined for the first time, but at the end I felt very frustrated with myself and beat myself up for not nearly spending as much time reading as I could have.
How do you set healthy goals/expectations and be kind to yourself if you don’t meet them?

I like to set realistic goals (not what I would like to do but what I think I can do) - if I set aside the time, I know I can read for 6 hours, so I’m thinking of aiming for 7 this time, hoping maybe to make 8, but not pressuring myself ). Also, while I love to read about and celebrate other people’s amazing achievements, I don’t compare myself with them - they are on their journey and I’m on mine. Having fun and participating in a community event are what’s important.

look at your last readathon… see how much time you spent and the difficulty…
compare that with what you can do/speed etc… and decide on some realistic goals…
then add stretch goals…

say you know you can read manga for 2 hours and finish one vol… easy goal to set…but if you know you going to have 5 hours to read…set a goal for 4 hours and try to finish 2 vol of something…then stretch for that 5th hour is bonus…

honestly it helps the more readathons you do, stats tracking really helps you see what your actual speed/endurance is…

alternatively don’t set any goals… keep stats and read and have fun…then use that as a benchmark for setting goals in the summer…

try to have fun…remember to plan snacks… and enjoy !!!

This will be my first ever spring readathon! (I guess it’s only the 2nd ever spring readathon, but still!)

I’m thinking of using the readathons to work through some of my graded readers. These are books that I was so excited about when I started out (and I still am!) but then my reading level progressed faster than my progress through the readers and now they may be just slightly languishing …

It’s fun to think about reading the same/similar type of material each readathon and seeing how I progress over the seasons. It’s also a fun format with the different short stories that I can report back on as I finish them. And it’s really motivating to try to finish a graded reader in a single day.

I think I’m more than halfway through this one: 10åˆ†ć§čŖć‚ć‚‹ē‰©čŖž 3幓ē”Ÿ ć‚ˆćæćØ恏10分 | L21

I’m getting excited just thinking about it!
