Joining this one for sure. The spring one is always my favourite. I think itās also the first one I originally joined? or maybe not. Either way, I think Iāll try novel reading this time, even if it means I wonāt contribute as much.
Iāll be joining again! Last time I read nearly all 3 volumes if Magic Night Rayearth part I. This time I might go for the 3 volumes of part 2. I think that would be a pretty cool comparison. I could also save that for the summer readathon and read something else like my first childrenās book.
Iām making these events the only time I allow myself to buy Cheese-its, itās adding to the hype
Iāll be joining, though the spring equinox always seems to coincide with the March Madness basketball tournament⦠So unless someone tells me no, Iāll be starting us off early, on Wednesday Mar. 18, so I can manage both without distractions Not really sure what my goals are yet, other than actually getting myself to start reading again. I barely did any reading, in any language, through February this year - the horror!!
NOOO you have to join!! Itās so fun to read together, who cares what the averages are And we need every number we can squeeze out so we can destroy those totals in the Results tab
Hey not a problem, tag me for any questions On your āhome postā and any reply you make on the forum, the grey timestamp in the upper right corner of the post gives you a link to your post specifically. You can copy that link and then paste it in the participants list next to your name. I hope Iāve understood the question correctly
Yay! Another Readathon! Thanks @taiyousea
for organizing.
Iāll be joining, but on the Friday. Havenāt yet decided on a goal or what Iām reading, but will do so closer to the day.
I hadnāt thought of that angle, but itās early enough in the tournament that I can let it slide.
(Floridaās title-winning run last year did catch my attention, though, and it was also the time where I was starting to learn Japanese, so like the last three Gator games I ended up on tofuguās Hiragana/Katakana pages doing tests and studying those because they kept winning when I did that and I still occasionally missed some).
I think Iām going to be boring and see how far I can get through more of the Yakumo book I read for the last readathon. Not sure if my reading day yet, but probably Friday..
..yes I know I will eventually run out of Sailor Moon scenes for my home posts..
Iāll update this closer to the readathon, once Iāve made the very difficult choice of what to read.. Iām thinking itās going to be another yuri filled one though, Iāve got some LNs Iād like to read this time
Also thanks @taiyousea for explaining how the links work (hopefully itās all sorted now) and for hosting this event once again, Iāve been looking forward to this since December and Iām psyched to read with everyone!
Canāt wait for the readathon! I should be good to go on the 21st; on the off chance something comes up that day, I should be able to pretty easily swing my plans to the 22nd.
Speaking of plans, Iām going to wait to make my home post until weāre a bit closer in, but this year I think Iām going to do a repeat of my first readathon year (two years ago) and focus specifically on manga. Thisāll definitely be the year I decimate my physical manga. And this upcoming readathon I plan on focusing on finishing ä»ē£č³ēä¼ | L27. The series is 13 volumes total (+1 bonus volume), and while I have confidence in my reading skills, reading 14 volumes of manga in a single day might be a bit tough. So the goal is to try to read through as many volumes as I can pre-readathon; Iāve already read through the first three, and Iām hoping to get to readathon day with only 4-5 left on my plate.
Autumn 2024 - 60 min read: 7 pages from é½éåŗēć®ććÆćŖć- an elementary school level book about Japanese prefectures and 2400 characters from ęć®å , a VN
Winter 2024- 2 hours, 88 pages and 1000 characters from 2 manga ( Frieren Vol 3 and Doraemon), Satori ( Koibito), and a childrenās book ( Survival club)
HECK YEAH, Iām looking forward to this, it will be great
I donāt really know yet what I will be reading. I expect an order with a bunch of One Piece and Frieren volumes to arrive within the next week, so those might be on my itinerary for the day. Though I might also take the day as an opportunity to dive into some books that have been sitting on my shelves for a while untouched.. Hm weāll see
Itās great to see everyoneās so enthusiastic about this event!
May I ask for some advice?
I think it was half a year ago when I joined for the first time, but at the end I felt very frustrated with myself and beat myself up for not nearly spending as much time reading as I could have.
How do you set healthy goals/expectations and be kind to yourself if you donāt meet them?
I like to set realistic goals (not what I would like to do but what I think I can do) - if I set aside the time, I know I can read for 6 hours, so Iām thinking of aiming for 7 this time, hoping maybe to make 8, but not pressuring myself ). Also, while I love to read about and celebrate other peopleās amazing achievements, I donāt compare myself with them - they are on their journey and Iām on mine. Having fun and participating in a community event are whatās important.
look at your last readathon⦠see how much time you spent and the difficultyā¦
compare that with what you can do/speed etc⦠and decide on some realistic goalsā¦
then add stretch goalsā¦
say you know you can read manga for 2 hours and finish one vol⦠easy goal to setā¦but if you know you going to have 5 hours to readā¦set a goal for 4 hours and try to finish 2 vol of somethingā¦then stretch for that 5th hour is bonusā¦
honestly it helps the more readathons you do, stats tracking really helps you see what your actual speed/endurance isā¦
alternatively donāt set any goals⦠keep stats and read and have funā¦then use that as a benchmark for setting goals in the summerā¦
try to have funā¦remember to plan snacks⦠and enjoy !!!
This will be my first ever spring readathon! (I guess itās only the 2nd ever spring readathon, but still!)
Iām thinking of using the readathons to work through some of my graded readers. These are books that I was so excited about when I started out (and I still am!) but then my reading level progressed faster than my progress through the readers and now they may be just slightly languishing ā¦
Itās fun to think about reading the same/similar type of material each readathon and seeing how I progress over the seasons. Itās also a fun format with the different short stories that I can report back on as I finish them. And itās really motivating to try to finish a graded reader in a single day.
