@Belerith do you want to update the title/first post with the upcoming book?
Yep, sorry about that. Done.
Here’s the thread for 女王蜂! Let’s talk about the schedule over there.
How do people feel about reading another Kindaichi mystery? Our next one up is 悪魔が来りて笛を吹く.
I’m in no hurry to start, but maybe we could pick a date? If we want to avoid overlap with the Saikawa&Moe club then we could start in mid-May. Any other preferences or opinions?
I’ve regrettably still not really gotten going with 女王蜂, but I’d still very much like to read that and 悪魔が来りて笛を吹, and mid-May seems like it would be plenty of a window for me to get properly caught up!
Mid-May works for me too.
I’m down for another 金田一 too.
I’ve been a bit burned out on book clubs and forums in general recently, but this post honestly brought a spark of joy.
Happy to hear it
It sounds like we have a consensus, so @Belerith would you like to update the first post and thread title? Let’s call it the 18th May for the start date, since that’s the closest Saturday to middle of May.
Edit: ah, I see you’ve just done it - thanks!
It’s about a month and a half til we start 悪魔が来りて笛を吹く, so I was thinking about scheduling for it. This book is a “lots of short chapters” one: there are 30 chapters in about 465 pages, so averaging 15 pages a chapter. Do we want to aim for something like 45-50 pages a week, or faster, or slower? Im assuming we’ll stick to chapter breaks for the endpoints.
I liked the pacing we had so far, so I’d say 45-50 sounds good. On the other hand it’s a pretty long book. I wouldn’t mind ramping up to a bit more per week, or reading a bit less each week if someone would prefer that.
I like 45-50, but anything under 70 is OK.
OK, here’s a proposed schedule, which mostly does three chapters a week:
Week | Chapters | Pages |
---|---|---|
1 | 1-3 | 42 |
2 | 4-6 | 52 |
3 | 7-9 | 42 |
4 | 10-12 | 43 |
5 | 13-16 | 54 |
6 | 17-19 | 40 |
7 | 20-21 | 46 |
8 | 22-24 | 46 |
9 | 25-27 | 57 |
10 | 28-30 | 43 |
I went ahead and created the thread for 悪魔が来りて笛を吹く (金田一耕助 Reading Club) . @Belerith would you mind editing the top post on this thread to point to it?
Done! Thanks.
