Home Thread 空の軌跡

At the very start of this week, you’ll meet a man. This week’s stopping point is after the scene where you meet him for a second time.

Side Quests

Nothing new.

The guy to the right of the factory entrance will give you an item if you speak to him. After speaking to him, you get bonus BP if you find and stop all sources of the smoke.

Hidden book: available after a change to your party members and before entering the tower, go to ヴォルフ砦 and talk to ブルーノ.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. What are/were your theories during the investigation at the factory?

  5. What did you make of the scene on top of the tower?

  6. Have your opinions of any characters changed?

First off, if I’m not mistaken, we can’t turn in the library book at all this week? I tried after the smoke problem ended and the room was empty despite the place repopulating. Came back when the week ended and a person was in there so I got excited… but they seem to not be the person we report to. Mean to give us a book in the onsen town and then our head librarian gets spirited away.

I can also say for sure, in the brief time we had Tita back, that when I fired her skill it hit one enemy and blinded it, totally missed one, then hit a third without blinding it. Maybe blind being below 100% is another Vita change?

Agate was fun to fight with; I liked how it fit with the story that he seemed a little stronger than Joshua and Estelle, though once I got in the tower the difference felt less pronounced. Outside he was taking like literally 0-1 damage. Had a few levels on my current party, too.

I made the mistake of walking up the stairs (which ended up leading to the roof) without healing us up first after that room full of trapped chests, so going in with everyone at half health made that fight really stressful. Burned a lot of precious healing items, especially because attack 1 turned Agate to stone, but I’m proud that I stuck with it and just barely won with everyone one hit from death.

This is a week of me getting to feel smart: this sort of attack on the factory was what I imagined we were heading towards, and I even guessed the large Bear-man we encountered might be a bracer from another country, but since meeting him happened within this week I didn’t get to post about it haha. It’s rare that I predict things well; take my word for it!

We’re really bad about letting villains get away. It’s still those guys behind everything, it seems. Surely they wouldn’t want to reveal if they were really guards for the queen… but at the same time, a part of me wants to think those outfits were real. It’d make things more exciting if she’s commanding this group, or something like that. They also laughed at the claim about the army mobilizing to stop them, IIRC. I remain super suspicious of the 大尉 lady who showed up and took Dorothy’s photos, too.

We also now know these guys think they have the means to make use of this scientist (more spooky black orbments!), so presumably the sort of backing that gives them access to advanced facilities of some sort? They have experimental weaponry to go along with it!

I guess ultimately Agate helped Tita but I was thinking his way of going about it was so harsh… I can at least partially forgive him knowing he was actively half dying from a bullet wound though, heh. He’s clearly got some sort of tragic past, right? I didn’t put too much thought in how he pushes away people’s involvement constantly both because he was usually correct and he just has that sort of personality, but the way he talked to Tita felt to me both like he has a personal reason to get really protective, and like when he was “toughening her up” it’s the kind of thing he personally pushed on himself. He feels responsible for someone’s death or something, I assume.

I could not find library lady either, but I have double (and triple, and quadruple) checked to make sure I know when to throw up a warning to complete it before it expires.

Like your thoughts on the plot but am not going to comment on them for obvious reasons.

As always, much appreciate your efforts, thanks for the confirmation.

Quest person

The lib lady was outside at 5F, but refused to work anyway. When Agate got to sleep, I couldn’t find her, maybe already back home.

I haven’t returned the shoes yet. The lab man was still there, but didn’t accept shoes. But now he isn’t there, only the cat.

Quest statuses don’t :x: so they are probably still not too late?

Pre-week guesses

I thought smoke was an attack. Then re-thought again, failed Artifact sawing? ofc, the last time is wrong.

Bear man wasn’t a culprit. But there are other culprits in the smoke anyway – I was wrong.

Story

Armored guys were so strong. I finally beat them with luck, Diamond Dust and freeze chance. Then, don’t thaw for many turns, never do.

Cat Rant

I’m a little disappointed, because I went to talk to Antoine and his specific meow is not in the cat translation book, nor can I figure out which it is closest to. I know that in the localisation every single cat in Liberl had their dialogue match something in the book, and was appropriate to the context, and even the cats in another country I could use the same translation book and while there were differences in dialect, they were similar enough that I could trace back which one was meant. But にぃやああお! is. not. here. There is no にぃ. The large や means I’m looking at the top five options. The お at the end hints towards the third but that doesn’t fit the context. Reading the “translations” the closest that might fit this context would be にやゃ~~ご but that seems much more calm, or maybe にゃぁお~~ん.

New entry: にぃやああお! = 恐れ表現

military lady

Same. She’s suspect number one for the military mole as far as I’m concerned.

I was so busy this week that I fell behind and had to rush to finish today with basically zero lookups. I managed to follow the gist of everything but I did not fully grasp the argument Agathe made on top of the building. Something like “you can’t help people if you’re crying and throwing tantrums” or something like that?

Also I hope that I chose the right item from the guy next to the atelier…

More or less. A bit of what you said, bit of “you’re just a kid and got in our way and made the situation worse.”
